About Encodia

Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel reverse-translation technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is not practical or cost-effective using current technologies.

Position Summary

Encodia seeks a passionate protein engineering leader to drive binder discovery programs as part of Encodia's reverse translation ProteoCode platform.

Requirements

• Leading a high-functioning team to implement protein engineering discovery strategy across the Encodia portfolio
• Managing, mentoring and hiring a team of cross-functional scientists into the fit for purpose life sciences professionals that Encodia needs, in alignment with individual team member interests
• Overseeing day-to-day experimental planning, data analysis, and prioritization of project based activities
• Leading and collaborating in project-based teams at the interface of biology, chemistry and materials science in a product development environment by allocating and prioritizing resources
• Distilling, organizing and synthesizing results into cogent and transparent visual aids and presentations to a wide range of both scientific and business audiences
• Evaluating new technologies, innovations, workflows, instrumentation for relevance to current and forward looking protein engineering needs
• Coordinating both in-sourced and out-sourced strategy for key platform technology initiatives
• Contributing to the Company's strategic direction and IP portfolio.

What do you bring to the role:

• PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical/bio-engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experience in a biotechnology or (bio)pharmaceutical setting
• Proven leadership and management to results-centered and high functioning teams; providing experienced career development to team members under their engagement
• Foundational expertise in protein engineering: high throughput selections and screens, molecular biology, display technologies, computational design
• Demonstrated ability to innovate hit confirmation workflows, to design the assays (biochemical, biophysical, etc.), and to interpret the outcomes contained therein
• Growth mindset: An orientation around continuous learning, whether it is in the technical or people management arena
• Excellence in project management, organization and problem solving
• Team oriented, collaborative, excellent verbal and written communication skills

Highly Desirable

• Experience in biotechnology product (instrumentation) development
• Familiarity with bioconjugation/labeling across multiple biomolecules (protein, peptide, oligonucleotide, small molecule, solid supports)
• Experience working in matrixed organizations
