Director of Quality
Job Description
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking a Director of Quality to join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry. The preferred candidate will have hands-on experience in the strategic development of all quality systems and protocols necessary to ensure efficient conformance and compliance. Your responsibilities will also include the statistical analysis of quality data generated from lithium-ion battery manufacturing and testing as well as powder material processing. You'll be using your skills and expertise to oversee methods and procedures for auditing and evaluating the accuracy of our processes, products, and systems. You'll ensure that corrective measures and deviation meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. This position is critical to ensuring all departments have the required information to effectively implement activities that drive our products to market with the highest quality. The Director of Quality will have in-depth knowledge of both ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
Job Duties:
- Direct and oversee the Quality department and supervisory staff.
- Evaluates operations from a strategic level to ensure that products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements.
- Collaborates with management and senior staff across departments and roles to draft acceptable quality standards.
- Performing detailed and recorded inspections of final products so the products are up to industry and company standards.
- Driving the corrective action system from MRB through corrective action completion.
- Determines quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
- Establish statistical confidence intervals by identifying sample size and acceptable errors.
- Provide leadership for not only the Quality organization but throughout the company via vision, strategy, culture, and strong execution.
- Establish statistical reliability identifying statistical methods, use DOE as necessary.
- Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, making recommendations for process improvements.
- Provides statistical information for quality improvement by identifying testing methods and samples.
- Facilitate, promote and train in the use of highly effective best practices: 8D (problem solving), SPC (data analytics), DOE (Design of Experiments), GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), RCA (root cause analysis), proper auditing techniques, design reviews, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelorโs Degree (or higher) in Engineering or related technical discipline and at least 10 years experience in Quality manufacturing or mfg. engineering.
- Battery or Automotive industry experience preferred.
- Prior leadership and management experience required, demonstrating a clear record of success in building industry-leading teams that can execute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Quality Management Systems (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO9001), expertise in automotive standards desirable.
- Critical thinker, problem solver utilizing first principles Experience/expertise of various quality system methodologies FMEA, 8D, Lean, 5 Whyโs, SPC, MRB, PPAP, etc. including strong technical skills in statistical tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Six Sigma Black Belt or Master preferred.
- Strong time management, conflict resolution, communication, briefing, presentation, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to navigate change and uncertainty, make defensible decisions in ambiguity and own those decisions.
- Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of supply chain, manufacturing, and production.
- Ability to work onsite five days per week at our Louisville, CO office.ย
Salary Range: $123,000 โ $190,000/year
