Director of Regulatory & Policy Business Development - Remote US
Job Description
- Track key regulatory, policy and legislative activities to provide meaningful insights to internal sales, marketing, and product teams that lead to productive actions.
- Engage, educate and persuade stakeholders in the regulatory and legislative process.
- Enable sales and marketing team members to prioritize resources and plan actions based on expected future regulatory & policy events that you lay out for the teams.
- Influence strategic product and market direction by understanding larger industry challenges and observing regulatory and policy actions across multiple jurisdictions meant to address those challenges.
- Drive company growth by eloquently translating the insights and observations gathered into business opportunities.
- Regularly communicate across the company, including with the sales & marketing, product, and customer success teams, senior leadership, including the CEO and, occasionally, Board of Directors.
- Occasionally travel to trade shows, conferences, state capitols, client & prospect offices, headquarters, and elsewhere, up to 10% of the time.
The DRPBD will be responsible for all jurisdictions within the North American utility landscape, with priority commensurate with business opportunities in the jurisdictions. More about you:
- Bring with you a wealth of knowledge and experience in the utility regulatory, policy and legislative environments.
- Have a strong interest in combatting climate change, decarbonization, electrification and/or the growth of distributed and renewable energy resources as a means to replace fossil-fuel based resources.
- Enjoy collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, including an interest in how to solve today's problems as well as looming challenges.
- Comfortable with extensive stretches of time where your work is self-directed.
- Understand, appreciate and can help develop process and structure while also not showing any diminution of skills during periods of rapidly adjusting priorities.
- Believe administrative law briefs are like page-turning novels and PUC workshops are where rock stars hang out.
- Get excited at the idea of contributing to the success of others on the team.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5 years' experience working in a role or organization focused strictly on utility regulation or policy or 3 years' experience in a regulatory or policy role at a technology company in the utility space.
- Demonstrable experience with the utility rate making and rate design process.
