Job Description

About Ceribell

Ceribell produces the world’s first brain monitor for point-of-care seizure triage and treatment. Our groundbreaking technology enables healthcare providers to test for a suspected seizure and then deliver treatments within minutes.
We are a rapidly growing venture capital-backed medical technology startup. Ceribell is being used in hundreds of community hospitals, large academic facilities and major IDN’s across the country. With extensive clinical validation of the effectiveness of our product and significant growth potential, all while we are pre-IPO, Ceribell is a fantastic career opportunity.

Position Overview

As Director of Research and Data at Ceribell, you will lead Ceribell’s early-stage efforts to develop new indications and applications for expansion of the Ceribell EEG platform. This role is part of Ceribell’s Data Science team, and although it is an R&D position, the role sits at the intersection of our R&D, Product, and Clinical functions. You will identify and prioritize new disease states and conditions where AI based analysis of EEG waveforms may be able to improve patient care. You will work with external physician advisors to design and execute data gathering clinical studies that will facilitate the initial development and evaluation of new EEG analysis algorithms. With each potential new indication, you will manage the project through the proof-of-concept phase and you will be responsible for analyzing data from clinical studies to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Data Science team. The Ceribell EEG platform has unlocked the potential of countless new disease states that could benefit from faster access to EEG based diagnosis and this is an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation in improving neurology related patient care.
This role is considered hybrid, working in our Sunnyvale office a minimum of 3 days/week.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate opportunities for new indications or disease states that can be diagnosed leveraging AI algorithms and the Ceribell EEG platform. Develop hypotheses for potential products and then plan and execute proof-of-concept studies that will prove or disprove these hypotheses.
  • Find and identify physicians that will serve as key advisors in the development of new applications; build relationships with these clinicians that will later be used in clinical studies or in other research collaborations.
  • Build data pipelines for the analysis of clinical EEG data; ensure that data being gathered from clinical studies meets the requirements of the Data Science team for the development of new algorithms.
  • Work closely with Ceribell’s Clinical team to ensure the successful execution of early-stage clinical studies.
  • Work closely with Ceribell’s Product team to ensure alignment of potential application opportunities with customer needs and Ceribell’s overall product roadmap.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous projects for the exploration of new indication opportunities.
  • Build a team that enables further growth and scaling of data research and data engineering as potential new indications continue to expand.

What You'll Need

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in neuroscience, statistics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or other relevant scientific or engineering field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in healthcare or medical technology in a data research, data science, or new product development role.
  • Deep knowledge of data research methodologies, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling techniques. Proficiency in data manipulation, integration, and analysis using tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Experience working with and managing complex datasets involving biosignal and clinical data.
  • Experience with developing and managing clinical research collaborations.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a focus on actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, adaptability, and a passion for leveraging data to drive innovation and improve patient outcomes.
