Director of Social/Engagement

With more than 3,000 employees across the nation, Hearst Newspapers publishes 24 dailies and 52 weeklies, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and Albany Times Union. We seek a Director of Social and Engagement for our subscription sites who is passionate about local news, journalism, and service to our communities. In this role, you'll develop and lead a cross-market social and engagement strategy, working with newsroom leaders to grow and execute against audience goals, subscription goals and reader needs.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the best practices and strategy on the use of social media platforms and track HNP overall performance and growth.
  • Regularly meets with newsroom partners on insights, actionable takeaways, opportunities and any hands-on trainings needed to grow off-platform channels in order to drive audience and engagement.
  • Establishes regular communication and is the main editorial partner lead with social platform partners to keep HNP newsrooms current on the latest tools, products and updates on platforms.
  • Collaborates with newsrooms on optimizing curation and content strategies for social platforms.
  • Works to define success and set goals and KPIs for the various social platforms and helps newsrooms establish reporting.
  • Partners with marketing on conversion, conversion and promotion efforts and works with sales as needed.
Skillset/Qualifications
  • Prior experience overseeing social media strategy and channels.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with multiple stakeholders across departments.
  • Understanding of audience development, ability to synthesize trends and data to partners.
  • Expert in audience analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Chartbeat, etc.) as well as metrics within platforms (Facebook Business Manager, etc).
  • A demonstrated understanding of digital content consumption trends both overall and as it relates to social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
The Basics
  • This position is full time.
  • This position will have a Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule but weekend and evening work may be required as news warrants.
  • Remote work friendly. The team is based in San Francisco and New York City, but we can employ in 20 other states, as well.
