Position Summary

Avantax Wealth Management, a subsidiary of Blucora and sister company to Avantax Planning Partners, is seeking a Director, Software Engineering to join and lead the Software Engineering Team, and the selected incumbent for this role should be comfortable being hands-on and leading from the front to maintain a firm grasp of the details and provide direct oversight and problem-solving leadership. We are also looking for a proactive leader, and team player who is passionate about programming technologies to provide a great digital experience to the end user. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Delivers engineering projects by directly involving in software development, resource planning for a business roadmap in advance; removing barriers to success; reviewing project progress against timeline; and developing and communicating logical, convincing justifications, including lessons learned, to build commitment and support.
• Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps; recruiting, selecting, and developing talent; supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning; and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.
• Report on engineering activities as it relates to team velocity and the product's OKRs.
• Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices.
• Implementing DevOps techniques and practices like Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Test Automation, Build Automation, and Test-Driven Development to enable the rapid delivery of working code-utilizing tools like Jenkins and Git.

Education & Experience

• Strong knowledge in Cloud with Kubernetes, Service Mesh (Istio/Linked), AWS Kinesis/Azure Stream, or GCP Dataflow.
• Comfortable being hands-on and leading from the front to maintain a firm grasp of the details and provide direct oversight and problem-solving leadership skills, especially with Python and .NET programming.
• Bias for action. Sound judgment in maintaining a balance between building high-quality products and moving fast.
• Ability to methodically and rigorously ensure that teams' code is high-quality.
• US citizens or Green Card holders only.
