BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:

IH&S Life Science Optics is a global leader in the supply of components and systems for the Life Science, Semiconductor, and Analytical Instrumentation markets. IDEX Health & Science - based in Rochester, New York -IDEX Health & Science's line of products are comprised of a Light Sources Group and an Optical Systems Group. The Light Sources Group manufactures a variety of visible, low to moderate power lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent performance. The Light Sources Group offers three basic types of lasers: gas (helium-neon and ion lasers), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, and semiconductor diode laser assemblies. The Optical Systems Group provides the design, prototype and low to mid volume manufacturing of custom lens assemblies and optical systems. The Optical Systems Group also specializes in the design of reliable shutter mechanisms and assemblies.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

The Supply Chain Director develops and implements business systems/processes to effectively plan and raw materials/components/equipment for both the COE location as well as our Center of Innovation (COI) in Carlsbad, CA which houses a product development team focused on illumination systems and light source components. This position is leading a team responsible for achieving business goals in the areas of on-time delivery, working capital, and material productivity. Success in this role requires a leader with strong collaboration and servant leadership skills, as well as a mindset for continuous improvement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & REQUIRED ABILITIES:

• Lead and develop an organization of 20+ professionals that includes Planning for all 5 product lines at the site along with warehouse management. Achieve department goals and metrics in line with yearly business goals as they relate to On Time Delivery, Working Capital, and Material Productivity.
• Proactive skills to develop talent and drive for continuous improvement within the supply chain.
• Establish and oversee a robust the SIOP (sales, inventory, and operations planning) process with Product Management and Manufacturing leaders.
• Develop and utilize MRP and other ERP based systems for managing procurement, planning, and inventory management in line with achieving quality, delivery, and inventory goals.
• Evaluate and enhance planning parameters in our ERP to drive accurate materials requirements, utilizing PFEP (Plan for Every Part).
• Work with top customers to ensure that our ERP systems are aligned with the most up to date customer requirements and that they are informed of the current production plans and issues.
• Own the capacity modeling function for all businesses at the site.
• Ensure continuity of supply to support and achieve on time delivery metrics to our customers
• Support make vs buy analysis to determine the best long-term approach for LSO
• Manage global inventory of raw materials, work in process, sub-assemblies, and finished goods to support on time delivery metrics while meeting working capital goals
• Drive internal process improvements to deliver material productivity improvements
• Drive results with a sense of urgency and diplomacy through superior processes and change management
• Be an active participant in site Daily Management, Monthly Business Reviews, and Strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.S. degree in Supply Chain Management or Operations
• Minimum 10+ years of progressive global sourcing experience, at least 3 years in leadership role
• Leadership capabilities that include flexibility to get into the details when needed and flex back to leadership role
• Excellent operations planning skills
• Global procurement experience in a wide variety of commodities
• Experience in complex manufacturing environments
• Strong knowledge of MRP systems (JDE preferred)
• Knowledge of and ability to negotiate contracts
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead globally, including influencing employees that don't directly report to position
• Experience with lean tools such as VSM, Kanban, material flow, supermarkets
