The Director of Technical Program Management for Figma Infrastructure & Platform Team, will be responsible for defining and delivering highly scalable, reliable platforms and systems for internal and external use. We’re looking for someone that is passionate about people, technology and program management. This role will be responsible for setting up the Platform and Infrastructure TPM function in Figma.
What you’ll do at Figma:- As the first TPM for engineering at Figma, you will set the vision and standard for best-in-class TPM function in Engineering, in close collaboration with Engineering Directors and Managers. You will build out a diverse, high-functioning and highly engaged TPM team by attracting top-talent and growing them.
- Identify / create / drive strategically important engineering-wide programs that have meaningful impact on Figma’s brand and business. These programs will have significant impact on one or more dimensions: scalability / reliability of our platforms, experience of our users, Figma’s business metrics (e.g., MAU, ARR and COGS, etc).
- Identify / create / drive programs have significant impact on velocity and quality of engineering execution.
- Drive large multi-year programs to very high standards of quality and predictability. Additionally, drive programs against hard deadlines with significant consequences for failures.
- Work closely with Engineering Directors and Managers to quantify the impact of major initiatives in Platform engineering on the experience of our users and business metrics.
- Support programs across a number of important areas across Platform Engineering: backend Infrastructure, client platform, security, enterprise platform and billing.
- Help scale and secure Figma infrastructure to meet the high traffic needs, and strive to eliminate downtime and improve the manageability of services
- Support Figma Platforms such as Billing, Security and Rendering/Animation
- Run programs that touch all of Figma engineering (e.g FedRamp certification)
- Build and lead a TPM team in close partnership with the Engineering Managers and Directors
- Structure and optimize engineering teams for execution
- Measure and improve efficiency and effectiveness of systems and processes
- Partner with all functions across the company to ensure all organizations are in sync
The Director of TPM for Infrastructure & Platforms will have both deep technical and program expertise. We are looking for a self driven leader who can gain the support of stakeholders with good data and technical arguments. Ideal candidates can influence thinking across multiple dimensions of platform, security, data, ML. They should have demonstrated experience building technical program management or engineering teams of 20 or more, and a proven track record of scaling infrastructure in a highly transformative environment. Specifically, they will be an innovative, intellectually curious problem solver. Ideal candidates would have worked as an IC engineer and/or Engineering Manager in the past.
- 15+ years of software engineering, systems engineering or technical product/program management experience.
- Experience either in an established traffic, storage, compute, real-time systems in large infrastructure setup.
- Experience in machine learning workload and AI powered products.
- Experience moving technical or engineering programs from concept to completion and experience articulating the impact using metrics, growth examples, return, etc.
- Experience with scale, production with emphasis on Reliability, Efficiency, Scalability, etc. with Product knowledge.
- Experience implementing instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
