Overview:

The Director of Technology is a member of the CBS Sacramento senior leadership team. The primary role of the Director is to provide technical management of systems that deliver content to over-the-air and streaming customers in the Sacramento market, including engineering, broadcast operations, digital technology, and general network infrastructure. Overall responsibility for all-day-to-day TV broadcast activities, including compliance with all regulatory and governmental agencies (FCC, OSHA, etc.), station asset management, transmission facilities, information technology systems, and remote facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Technology will play a critical leadership role in encouraging an inclusive culture that accepts change and innovation
  • The Director of Technology will help define and implement organizational and technological strategies, and be responsible for two television stations, plus digital and streaming products in Sacramento.
  • Leads all aspects of staff that maintains station operations and station building through preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Coordinates staff that is responsible for on-air production.
  • Establishes routine maintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment.
  • Coordinates and assists with the installation and maintenance of control consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, control systems, remote equipment etc.
  • Serve as the CBS Sacramento chief broadcast and operations technology strategist, working with staff across all departments to maintain, upgrade, and grow services.
  • Supervise and lead technology, engineering, and broadcast operations departments.
  • Leverage new technologies, as well as emerging digital platforms to reach audiences.
  • Serve as primary liaison with corporate engineering and technology leadership to ensure timely implementation of upgrades and new technologies or products at a local level.
  • Coordinate support of general station IT needs, including desktop computers, networked devices, and servers
  • Serve as primary technology liaison with station managers, external technology partners, equipment vendors and systems integrators
  • Lead technical planning, budgeting, and implementation for broadcast and operations construction projects
  • Build and lead annual technology and operation budgets with station leadership.
  • Negotiate contracts, make purchasing decisions, and submit required reporting to internal and external entities
  • Foster and maintain beneficial partnerships within the broadcasting community
  • Develop long-term capital budget plan for technology replacement and growth
  • Assure compliance, and serve as the principal contact, for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, as it relates to broadcast licenses and technical facilities.
  • Engineering, IT, and Broadcast Operations oversight and supervision
  • Provide leadership to the engineering, IT, and operations departments by setting work objectives, defining procedures, and establishing priorities.
  • Provide timely updates on technology and engineering issues to General Manager

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of broadcast engineering or technology management experience

  • Proven leadership and strategic decision making
  • Shown experience leading technical operations in a local/regional broadcast organization.
  • Able to effectively lead and manage in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic decision making
  • Strong prioritization, communication, analytical, design, planning and management skills
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to excellence, clarity, and high standards
  • Strong organizational skills: able to manage priorities and meet deadlines

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $125,280.00 - 180,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
