Director of Test Engineering
Job Description
Position Purpose: The Director of Test Engineering will oversee test engineering operations and ensure that proper engineering procedures are followed.

Pay Range: $150,000 - $220,000
(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
Location: Boulder/Lafayette, CO

Job Responsibilities:
- Focus on strategic execution and goal setting of test engineering team
- Manages company test engineering and related technical activities, including managing outsourcing of projects with outside resources
- Responsible for design, development, and implementation of new test equipment and procedures; and for the improvement of existing equipment
- Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports
- Provide technical support to engineers and customers
- Provide guidance for troubleshooting and debugging test failures
- Assists chief operating officer with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and implementation of new and advanced technology.
- Monitor revenue margins for worker productivity, and develop guidelines for personnel evaluations, staff advancement, and recruitment
- Recommends measures to improve quality of services, equipment performance, and quality of test hardware products
- Works with company managers to coordinate activities across departments
- Attend design reviews for new products to ensure their testability
- Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
- Forecasts operating costs of department and prepares and maintains department budget
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
- Directs activities to ensure that operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements
- Identifies and shares training opportunities for staff to build and improve
- Organizes departmental management structure and teams for optimal, efficient operations
- Delivers progress and production reports to executive team members as requested
- Supervises equipment purchase, maintenance, and layout
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- At least ten years of related experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
- Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development
- Experience with spacecraft assembly, integration, and test
- Experience with use of test and measurement equipment for testing and troubleshooting
- A strong attention to detail and understanding of the big picture of the company goals
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required; Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred
- Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education
Working Conditions:
This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
