Director of Test Engineering

Position Purpose: The Director of Test Engineering will oversee test engineering operations and ensure that proper engineering procedures are followed.

Position Type: Full Time

Pay Range: $150,000 - $220,000

(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Job Responsibilities:

• Focus on strategic execution and goal setting of test engineering team
• Manages company test engineering and related technical activities, including managing outsourcing of projects with outside resources
• Responsible for design, development, and implementation of new test equipment and procedures; and for the improvement of existing equipment
• Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports
• Provide technical support to engineers and customers
• Provide guidance for troubleshooting and debugging test failures
• Assists chief operating officer with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and implementation of new and advanced technology.
• Monitor revenue margins for worker productivity, and develop guidelines for personnel evaluations, staff advancement, and recruitment
• Recommends measures to improve quality of services, equipment performance, and quality of test hardware products
• Works with company managers to coordinate activities across departments
• Attend design reviews for new products to ensure their testability
• Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
• Forecasts operating costs of department and prepares and maintains department budget
• Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
• Directs activities to ensure that operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements
• Identifies and shares training opportunities for staff to build and improve
• Organizes departmental management structure and teams for optimal, efficient operations
• Delivers progress and production reports to executive team members as requested
• Supervises equipment purchase, maintenance, and layout
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• At least ten years of related experience required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent managerial and supervisory skills
• Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development
• Experience with spacecraft assembly, integration, and test
• Experience with use of test and measurement equipment for testing and troubleshooting
• A strong attention to detail and understanding of the big picture of the company goals
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
• Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education

Required Education:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required; Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration preferred
• Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education

Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
