Director of User Experience
Job Description
The Director of UX will lead a team of UX designers to improve and enhance the user experience for our global customers on all platforms (desktop, MW, and app). They will expand on our existing experiences and build new features and products. This position will partner with Product, IT, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand user needs and requirements to provide creative and thoughtful design solutions.
The position requires a pragmatic leader with a user-centered and data-informed approach to design, and an ability to drive innovative design solutions with minimal direction. The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of contemporary design, user journeys and research methodologies, and solutions for complex experiences.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee the end-to-end user experience for all platforms including Digital, POS and Customer care and Internal facing applications across all touchpoints (desktop, mobileweb and mobileapp)
- Develop UX/UI documentation such as site outlines, process flows, sketches, scenarios, personas, wireframes, and navigation models for applications to define functionality and user behavior.
- Mentor team by establishing clear career paths, regular coaching, and proactively identifying future organizational needs
- Establish design system and evolve experiential and UI consistency and quality across Neighborly platforms (Digital, POS and Enterprise)
- Partner with Product, IT, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand user needs and requirements to provide creative and thoughtful design solutions.
- Iterate on designs and testing, incorporating data into your design process and evolving our understanding of customer needs and behavior.
- Help to build a strong design culture within the organization.
- Get hands-on with projects when necessary to drive projects forward.
Required Attributes:
- Experience with A/B testing
- Experience leading a product-focused high-performance design team.
- Experience working with product, business stakeholders, and user researchers to drive strategy, vision, and execution.
- Experience managing processes and teams in an agile/scrum environment.
- Experience working with design systems and tools such as Sketch, Invision, Figma, and Adobe
- A user-centered design approach and highly collaborative, low-ego approach to design
- Experience attracting, hiring, and retaining top design talent.
- Experience presenting design concepts clearly and persuasively to colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and executives.
- Experience managing business stakeholders and vendor partners.
- Multi-brand, multi-unit, franchise experience a plus!
- Lead the end-to-end design process, ensuring timely, detailed, and polished deliverables. Coordinate and deliver design, prototype, and documentation to the highest possible standards.
- Partner with cross-functional teams across Neighborly in defining and communicating user experience and design direction.
- Present UX design solutions to Product, and Engineering project teams, business stakeholders and leadership as needed. Collaborate with Product and Engineering to execute the roadmap and produce measurable results that support business objectives. Ensure the success of the strategy and the ability to champion the best possible user experience.
- Partner with Product and Engineering project teams throughout development to execution. Test or oversee testing of coded UI to ensure adherence to defined design and behaviors. Establish and maintain design consistency, standards, and accuracy on all projects.
- Research to incorporate market analyses, data-driven insights, and user research findings to inform design decisions. Develop understanding of Neighborly' s customer needs and competitors through UX research and exploration.
- Self-starter. Ability to work autonomously with little support.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in art, UI/UX Design or related field required, or equivalent work experience.
- Generally, requires ten (10) years of design experience focusing on eCommerce or related fields. Five (5) plus years in a Supervisory role.
