The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco (CZ Biohub SF) (https://wwww.czbiohub.org/sf) is an independent nonprofit research institute that brings together three powerhouse universities - Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UC San Francisco - into a single collaborative technology and discovery engine. CZ Biohub SF itself supports some of the brightest, boldest engineers, data scientists, and biomedical researchers to investigate the fundamental mechanisms underlying disease and develop new technologies that will lead to actionable diagnostics and effective therapies. The Opportunity
You will
- Manage the teams responsible for Lab Operations, Office Management, and Facilities at our San Francisco Mission Bay location, and Lab Operations at our Stanford location
- Your direct reports will be the Associate Director of Lab Operations, the Office Manager, and the Facilities Manager
- Lab Operations responsibilities include: Safety procedures and regulations; lab user safety training and compliance; interfacing with UCSF and Stanford’s EH&S departments; laboratory equipment maintenance and service contracts; laboratory space management; etc.
- Office Management responsibilities include: Reception; safety procedures for the site (including COVID procedures, emergency evacuations and communication procedures); office space, desk allocations, and office supplies; event planning and catering; kitchen supplies; janitorial staff; swag; etc.
Facilities responsibilities include: Office and lab space maintenance (lighting, plumbing, electrical systems, furniture, etc.); infrastructure maintenance (compressed air, vacuum, and DI water systems); equipment installation; interfacing with landlord; EV chargers; etc.
- Manage and plan all of the Operations budgets
- Create and coordinate processes and workflows to ensure seamless and efficient execution between the various Operations teams
- Develop, implement, and enforce policies that ensure the safety, compliance, and efficiency of the lab and general operations, including leading and coordinating the Biohub Safety Committee
- Manage acquisitions of large CapEx and manage/optimize service contracts
- Optimize laboratory and office purchasing (including catering and kitchen supplies) to lower costs
- Work with Group and Platform leaders and Operations team to create policies and workflows and minimize points of friction
You have
Essential –
- Minimum of 7 years experience managing biotech lab operations, facilities and office space
- Significant experience hiring and managing staff
- "Big picture" thinking skills to address top-level concerns and find the best path forward from all of the available data
- A thorough understanding of financial and budgeting processes and principles, especially with respect to facilities, laboratory operations and office management
- Extensive experience coordinating and communicating with internal customers and stakeholders
- Strong personal and professional judgment
- Problem-solving abilities that adapt to a variety of situations
- Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to effectively communicate with leadership and staff to create and administer policies and processes
- Ability to respond quickly to shifting circumstances and adjust and prioritize accordingly
- Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility to jump between projects and priorities
- Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, project management software

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Compensation
- $176,000 - $242,000
