The Director, Platform Marketing Leader directly drives the marketing activities of the relevant platform (or segment of Platform), through a mindset of overall business leadership. This position is responsible for the development and execution of the business strategy for his/her area of responsibility. The individual oversees PLM activities, working in close cooperation with the Platform R&D Leader to optimize the product portfolio for long-term growth and profitability. The Director, Platform Marketing Leader oversees the management of the products within his/her area of responsibility from ideation through obsolescence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
- Demonstrate leadership, expertise, innovation, vision, and the company values in your actions. Assess portfolio opportunities and gaps to bring needed innovation, including:
- Monitor market and competitive moves through third-party and primary market research
- Partner with global commercial teams for local market insight and alignment.
- Gather clinician insight through a comprehensive voice of customer plan.
- Work with Business Development to identify external technologies.
- Develop and bring forward well-thought proposals to bring new products into the portfolio.
- Lead marketing activity from idea to commercialization, including:
- Partner globally to align on user requirements, claims, and product descriptions.
- Build market models.
- Share leadership of Product Development Team(s).
- Define and lead global go-to-market strategy and execution with clear milestones and deliverables, including customer segmentation and targeting; value proposition, positioning and messaging; reimbursement and pricing strategy; forecast and inventory plans; communication plan; and product lifecycle plan.
- Monitor commercial success via dashboards and adapt plans as needed. Own strategy, P&L responsibility, branding and positioning for your business:
- Proactively monitoring sales and margin and provide leadership updates.
- Partner with Brand and Commercial Marketing Teams to communicate portfolio advantages.
- Prepare for and respond to market opportunities and challenges.
- Approve regional adaptions of global commercial and messaging strategies Identify and establish productive relationships with clinical thought-leaders as part of comprehensive voice of customer and product champion plans for your portfolio.
- Lead the development and evolution of the product portfolio strategy.
- Works closely with R&D leadership to prioritize product development projects from early idea phase through launch.
- Oversees product launch preparation and management.
- Work closely with Supply Chain on ensure forecasted demand and target inventory levels meet the needs of the sales teams and corporate targets, while minimizing or eliminating backorder.
- Ensures product development and post-launch growth strategies incorporate clinical, HEOR and reimbursement strategies as needed. Stay current on relevant market intelligence
- Monitors global markets to identify new trends, technologies, therapies, or procedures that could create opportunities for growth or disruption of Merit's business.
- Ensures full compliance of marketing activities with all applicable company policies and regulations.

- Recruit, hire, mentor, coach, and develop direct reports (if applicable).
- Travel up to 30% of the time, and as needed.
- Perform all other duties, as needed.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in marketing, engineering, life sciences, or other business-related function.
- Minimum of ten years of medical device marketing experience, with four of those years in a direct management role.
- Strong command of marketing principles, market segmentation and targeting, branding, positioning, pricing, and market development (including customer education).
- Experience building and executing marketing and business strategies.
- Experience in global medical device markets.
- Experience working in close cross-functional teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in marketing or MBA strongly preferred.
- Past experience in markets served by the platform.
- Salt Lake City location strongly preferred.
