Seated in our Los Angeles based headquarters and reporting to our General Counsel, Genies is looking for an experienced product attorney to serve as our first Director of Product Counsel. Genies legal team is an active and key member of Genies product team, and the Director of Product Counsel will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all legal issues related to Genies current and future products and offerings. The Product Counsel will help Genies achieve its business and product goals while mitigating legal risk, and serve as the go-to legal partner for our CEO & Founder, product, engineering, and design teams. What You’ll be Doing:

  • Act as primary legal counsel for Genies products, responsible for assessing and advising on new products and technology, from early development through launch, implementation and further innovation
  • Analyze potential legal, compliance and regulatory risks and requirements on a broad range of legal areas, including intellectual property, privacy, regulatory, consumer product, content moderation, accessibility, security, marketing, and other legal matters
  • Serve as a key partner to the product and development teams and provide thought leadership and strategic direction
  • Contribute to the development of legal positions on novel issues in Web3
  • Provide practical and risk-tolerant analysis taking into account the company’s position and long term strategies
  • Support the development and implementation of scalable legal processes to efficiently handle the company’s legal needs and quickly find legal solutions
  • Being a key legal point of contact across key pieces of the business, including product, development, and R&D  
  • Build and implement transparent and efficient data privacy processes, including data mapping, governance and privacy-by-design
  • Have the opportunity to participate in key legal projects across the legal department
  • Supporting the scaling up efforts of the legal function

What You Should Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law in California 
  • At least ten years of relevant work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, including at least five years of in-house product counsel experience, ideally in the social, user generated, and/or consumer tech space
  • Broad range of experience, preferably some combination of intellectual property, privacy, consumer protection, payments and regulatory law
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and exceptional drive, precision, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and listening skills (verbal and written) and comfort giving and receiving direct feedback
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross functional colleagues as well as other legal team members
  • Ability to exercise appropriate judgment, including determining when issues should be escalated
  • Strong relationship building skills and abilities
  • Ability to innovate and create solutions
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new things
  • Highly autonomous and a self starter, with well developed time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines

The actual base pay is dependent upon a number of factors, including: professional background, training, transferable skills, work experience, education, location, business and product needs, and market demand. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time employees may also be eligible for equity compensation, in addition to a robust health, wellness, and benefits package. 

Starting Salary Range: $200,000.00 to $275,000.00 USD
