Director, Product Management
The Director, Product Management provides strategic leadership and management to the Schlage mechanical product category for the Locks & Access Solutions SBU and is responsible for overseeing the development and execution of product strategies that align and support the overall SBU strategy to meet customer and market needs. This role will drive development and implementation of innovative strategies in the team to optimize the product portfolio, ensuring that resources are most effectively allocated toward the best opportunities to achieve business goals. The Director, Product Management uses their excellent leadership, communication ability, analytical skills and business acumen to maximize the growth, development and return on investment of the product portfolio strategy through leadership of their direct team and partnerships with stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
- Responsible for the holistic strategic way forward for the Schlage mechanical business including (but not limited to) product strategy and product roadmap for the business category ensuring alignment across the organization; owns and develops critical strategic and operational goals and execution plans to achieve desired bookings, revenue, margin, and operational results
- Focuses on optimizing product innovation processes, product improvements, quality, etc. across the product category; participates in related initiatives across the organization
- Seeks input, influences, and aligns with leaders at all levels (Sales, Channel, IT, Engineering, Manufacturing, Finance, etc.) regarding prioritization of business initiatives for the SBU and Allegion
- Maintains expert knowledge of the markets and channels of the category including consumer/customer needs, industry trends, and go-to market strategy; evaluates assessments of PRDs, competitive landscape & market opportunities to inform strategic decisions. Brings thought leadership to the product category & stakeholders consistently driving outside-in perspective
- Drives development of comprehensive business cases & new business opportunities applying deep comprehension of business and financial acumen
- Significantly Influences business decisions made by SBU General Manager & senior leadership; assists with development of the long-range plan, annual operating plan and other strategic business plans
- Actively assesses the performance of product line(s) through financial metrics & KPIs; prioritizes investment, projects and activities to best position the category for profitable improvement over time
- Leads by example with excellent relationships and broad influence within the business unit and larger organization to align others toward shared goals without direct authority. Proactively identifies possible areas of conflict and partners with stakeholder(s) to identify resolutions
- Communicates with senior leadership to ensure awareness and understanding on matters of strategic importance
- Direct management responsibility for a team accountable for performance management, providing actionable feedback, driving development & growth for individuals, team engagement, and allocating resources & projects optimally to drive results
What You Need to Succeed:
- 10+ years of experience in product management, engineering, or related experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or technical field
- Demonstrated experience leading the development of strategy, gaining alignment, and diving execution through collaboration and trusted partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly skilled at indirect leadership & influencing others with the ability to navigate a matrix organization
- Very strong business and financial acumen with ability to identify business unit and organizational opportunities & threats and lead development action plans
- Leading with effective collaboration, negotiation and facilitation with cross-functional execution
- Very strong communication skills and executive presence with experience clearly articulating product strategy(ies) to all levels in the organization
- Demonstrated capabilities with strategic planning and track record of supporting profitable business growth
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, integrate, and execute new solutions within a business
- Strong leaders of People with proven ability to drive Team Engagement above Organizational average levels
- Ability to travel up to 30%
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- MBA or master's degree
- 3+ years in a leadership role
- Physical access control industry knowledge
