Job DescriptionThe Daily Beast is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Director of Programmatic Yield to oversee both programmatic and syndication revenue and partnerships. Both business lines are significant revenue drivers and core to our company growth, which means this person will have the opportunity to make a real impact and regularly interact with our executive team.
In addition to having a deep understanding of programmatic advertising platforms and yield optimization techniques, the ideal candidate has superb analytical skills and loves making data-driven decisions. We’re looking for someone who is energized by the pursuit of ambitious revenue targets and acts as a proactive problem solver to optimize the business and unearth new opportunities. Finally, this person should be a leader who can easily toggle between effectively communicating the big picture, being an eager cross-functional collaborator, and being hands-on with their team of analysts.
This person will report to the SVP Revenue Operations & Analytics and will manage an existing team of analysts. You’ll be joining a small but mighty team focused on achieving revenue and performance goals.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Develop and implement a comprehensive programmatic advertising strategy that aligns with the company's overall revenue objectives and growth targets.
- Manage programmatic and syndication partner relationships and keep strategic ongoing projects on course for success.
- Act as a liaison between the head of AdOps and Partners to ensure technical updates and implementations related to programmatic advertising.
- Identify opportunities to expand programmatic direct partnerships and work closely with sales and marketing teams to leverage those opportunities effectively.
- Design and oversee the pricing strategy for open auction inventory, specifically within unified pricing rules.
- Implement A/B testing and other experimental strategies to enhance ad performance and increase overall yield.
- Monitor ad inventory levels and develop strategies to maintain optimal fill rates and prevent ad fatigue.
- Collaborate with Data Insights, Ad Operations and Product to ensure efficient ad placements and inventory monetization.
- Analyze programmatic ad performance and identify areas for improvement in yield optimization.
- Lead and mentor a small team, providing guidance and support to achieve individual and team goals.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the programmatic yield team.
- Help inform the overall business team on industry and revenue trends through data-driven insights.
- Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to programmatic advertising.
- Generate regular reports to showcase performance insights, revenue trends, and actionable recommendations for optimization.
- Provide performance updates and presentations to the executive team.
- BA or BS degree (advanced degree preferred)
- At least 5 years in programmatic advertising and yield management within the digital publishing industry
- 2+ years managing other team members
- Revenue-driven: Demonstrates a dedicated focus on generating revenue, directing the majority of their attention towards finding strategies to achieve the revenue targets.
- An instinctual problem solver, constantly looking for new and better ways to grow the business
- Expert in Excel with ability to create pivot tables, use v-lookup formulas, if/then statements, devise charts and graphs that convey actionable insights
- Understanding of the programmatic landscape, inclusive of SSPs, DSPs
- Understanding of various publisher metric models (RPM, ARPU, IPV, CPM, CPC, CPA)
- Knowledge of GCP, SQL a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate the big picture while providing detailed hands-on direction for your team of analysts
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Being able to move fast while staying organized is a must

The pay range for this position is $120,000 - $155,000 and bonus eligible.
The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to work location, experience, performance and other factors. The range listed is just one component of The Daily Beast’s total compensation package.
