The Director of Revenue Accounting will lead a small and very productive functional team for a rapidly growing open-source software company.Ā  This role will be responsible for the end-to-end billing to cash cycle, with a heavy emphasis on technical revenue recognition skills (606) and our customers’ experience.Ā  In addition, this individual will work closely with upstream cross-functional teammates (such as Sales Ops, Go To Market, Customer Success and FP&A) to influence system changes and sales positioning of our products.Ā 
As Grafana Labs continues to grow organically and through acquisitions, this role will also be responsible for ensuring revenue integration of newly acquired entities and new internal product launches while maintaining accurate revenue recognition throughout.Ā  The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of US GAAP, have excellent analytical and communication skills, and have experience with SaaS, on-premise and professional services revenue streams.Ā  This position will report into our VP of Finance (Accounting). Ā 


Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct all related revenue recognition accounting, systems and tools for our SaaS, on-premise, and professional services streams
  • Perform technical research and consult with management and the external auditors to ensure that proper accounting treatment is applied and documentedĀ 
  • Consider implication of new accounting pronouncements on current policies and provide support on adoption of such standards
  • Drive continuous business process improvement and automation, including playing a key role in the selection and implementation of new revenue billing systems
  • Direct the continued implementation and improvement of technical tools to reduce manual business processes, all with an eye towards SOX compliance
  • Engage with the Sales and Finance teams to provide input and expertise on optimal deal structuring and revenue modeling
  • Build a metrics driven reporting focus within the team
  • Work with the cross-functional team on new product introduction and revenue recognition considerations
  • Work pro-actively with executive management on new business arrangements and related revenue recognition considerations
  • Place a strong emphasis on continual team development


Requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience including tech, SAAS and startup exposure
  • Big Four public accounting experience or equivalent
  • Certified Public Accountant (active)
  • Extensive understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Systems selection, implementation, and stabilization experience in a similar industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally at all levels in an efficient manner.Ā  Note that the interview process will include a written ā€˜homework’ assignment
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work in a rapidly changing global and remote environment
  • Experience with data management and an understanding of data transformation and visualization techniques to drive insights and data-driven decision making
  • Interprets business issues and recommends best practices and innovative solutions
