HopSkipDrive’s mission is to create opportunity for all through mobility. Our safe, innovative youth transportation solution is used by over 450 school districts, charter schools, non-profits and government agencies, and busy families to get kids where they need to go.
With nearly 500,000 yellow buses on the road every day and 3.5 billion miles driven a year, student transportation is the largest mass transit system in the US. And while districts spend $25 billion annually on transportation, only 30% of kids get to school on a bus every day. Add to the equation a crippling bus driver shortage and increasing needs for individualized transportation solutions, and it is clear the current system is expensive, inefficient, and ripe for disruption.

Who you are
As the Director, General Manager of RideIQ Solutions you will report directly to our SVP, Head of Growth, and be responsible for scaling a new, exciting business unit that builds on our current leadership position in small vehicle transportation and establishes HopSkipDrive as a broader strategic and operational partner for district transportation departments. Â
Along with a small team and with the help of cross-functional partners, you will transform hundreds of school districts’ approaches to transportation, driving efficiencies through data science, more flexible transportation modalities, and modern decision support. Districts will abandon the legacy “one-size-fits-all” to bussing and instead match the right vehicle to the right need, routing each one in the right way, using our technology and support to optimize the system against district priorities. In addition, you will drive the discovery of product-market fit and go-to-market strategy for new products that leverage our core competencies to address a broader set of needs for district transportation departments. This will significantly enhance HopSkipDrive’s revenue potential with its school district clients.
What you'll do
Strategic Leadership
- Be the business owner of RideIQ Solutions, responsible for its growth, success and financial contribution
- Become expert on how school districts solve routing problems today - people, workflows, technology, priorities, constraints, politics, etc.
- Spend time with our customers, understand their motivations, fears, desires, etc, and bring the voice of the customer to a wide range of internal discussionsÂ
- Partner with our product team to develop and continuously iterate on the product vision and roadmapÂ
- Map and constantly reassess the competitive landscape and how we position within it
- Develop and manage strategic partnershipsÂ
- Be the internal champion of the business; regularly communicate vision, strategy, and status a clear and compelling way to internal and external stakeholders Â
Commercial Leadership
- Lead the discovery and evolution of product-market-sales fit for new and existing products Â
- Partner with our sales and marketing teams to develop and continuously iterate on go-to-market strategy
- Ensure messaging and positioning is consistent and effective across teams, markets and audiences
- Support the sales team in growing our customer base, directly participating in the sales cycle for strategic accounts
- Drive execution on client engagements, ensuring each delivers on the client’s priorities and HopSkipDrive’s commercial goals
Other
- Hire, onboard, develop and lead a small, high-performance team
- Constantly evaluating and iterating on the operating model to ensure it’s optimized for speed and client outcomes in the short term, and for scalability and efficiency in the long term
- Take a “player-coach” approach, contributing as much as an individual as leading through your team and cross-functional partners
- Collaborate with a broad set of cross-functional stakeholders beyond sales, marketing and product to ensure the growth, success, and sustainability of the business (legal, finance, client experience, markets, etc.)
- As applicable, manage grants, RFPs, and other processes that support the growth of RideIQ Solutions
- Wear many hats and contribute to a broad range of initiatives beyond your explicit scope to meet the needs of the business
What we’re looking for Â

- A+ player looking to build a challenging and rewarding career
- 5-7+ years experience driving superior results and leading teams within fast-paced environments. Experience as an enterprise GM and/or industry experience in school district operations preferred. Client-facing or similar experience required.     Â
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets and PowerPoint / Google Slides required; intermediate or better proficiency in a broader set of data analysis and visualization tools preferred (e.g. SQL, Tableau)
- Intellectual curiosity and a love of learning
- Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities and switch quickly between divergent workflowsÂ
- An entrepreneurial mindset: no job is too big or too small for you and you are comfortable with the ambiguity of “building the plane while flying it.”
- Thrive on solving challenging problems; not afraid to challenge the status quo
- Ability to translate the needs of non-technical stakeholders into detailed technical requirements and communicate the results clearly in “layman's terms”

HopSkipDrive is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role in is $140,000 to $160,000. This position is remote and, as such, compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by several factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skill set, certifications, and specific work location. The total compensation package for this role also includes equity stock options.
