Director, Scientific Strategy - MedComms

Our Director of MedComms works closely with the rest of the strategy team as well as our interwoven client teams. You will lead development of MedComms strategy and activation plans to meet client goals as well as guide and support client implementation of such plans. The ideal candidate will be a flexible problem-solver who can juggle multiple moving parts at once and contribute both analytical research skills learned in the lab/research setting and science-based strategic thinking and content to client and new business opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of client industry landscape, scientific approach, and business objectives; identify relevant strategic opportunities
- Interpret and communicate clinical and research advances for staff, clients, patients, and lay public
- Lead development of MedComms strategy and activation plans to meet client goals; guide and support client implementation of plans. Able to actively and credibly engage with KOLs and other stakeholders identified by client to support such implementation.
- Draft and review wide array of complex, strategically-driven scientific content and deliverables (e.g., scientific narratives, science and thought leader insights, scientific slide decks, symposia/advisory board content, publications, in-practice educational materials, medical websites, educational webcasts/speaker programs, etc.).
- Share client relationship responsibilities collaboratively with account team, oversee client relationship team’s pull-through of scientifically-based communications materials and other deliverables
- Contribute to new business opportunities, including scientific assessment and insights development supporting pitch presentations, organic growth contributions, etc.
- Work with senior leadership to expand scientific and medical communications strategic thinking and identify growth opportunities
- Participate and actively contribute to all-agency and client meetings, as appropriate and as the face of Spectrum
- Engage with client relationship team in staffing and budget projections; liaise with client and interwoven team on project scopes and budgets
- Ensure team meets deadlines, manages priorities, and effectively communicates to both internal and external stakeholders
- Participate in agency activities and professional development opportunities; communicate areas for improvement
- Mentor junior staff and play an active role in their professional development; identify and champion both account-specific and agency-wide visibility opportunities for self and team members
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced Degree (PhD, PharmD)
- 6+ years of prior healthcare agency experience preferably in Medical Communications.
- Deep knowledge of the scientific and medical literature ecosystem; ability to research, assess, and formulate actionable scientific insights from complex inputs
- Able to deliver scientifically informed content that effectively tells a compelling story
- Service orientation with experience building strong internal and external relationships across client functions (e.g. Medical Affairs, Medical Communications, Commercial).
- Familiarity with industry regulatory environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects and/or accounts simultaneously
- Resourceful and effective problem solver
- Highly collaborative, professional demeanor
- Able to excel in a team environment as well as drive work independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
The anticipated salary range for this position will be $135K-175K. Salary is based on job-related factors such as: years of relevant experience, qualifications and/or certifications. Spectrum reserves the right to modify this pay range at any given time.
