We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Physician Practice Section Director on our Members Program team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.
As a Physician Practice Section Director, you are responsible for the long-term success of multiple assigned Sections through (1) overseeing strategic planning and other Section governance functions, (2) directing staff in planning and executing Section events and initiatives, and (3) facilitating collaboration with relevant AMA business units and external stakeholder organizations. Section Team Directors also contribute to the overall Sections strategy as members of the Sections Leadership Team. This role is responsible for the Integrated Physician Practice Section, the Organized Medical Staff Section, and the Private Practice Physician Section.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Section Initiatives
- Direct Section staff in the planning and execution of Governing Council meetings, Annual/Interim meetings, and other Section events and initiatives.
- Oversee Section policymaking processes, ensuring adherence to governance rules, identifying opportunities for improvement, and maximizing policy impact
- Facilitate two-way communication between the AMA and Section members, and between Section leaders and their constituents.
- Collaborate with other business units to identify and offer mutually beneficial opportunities for Sections to contribute to the AMA value proposition and grow AMA membership.
Leadership and Governance
- Guide Section staff and elected/appointed leaders in the development and implementation of strategic plans aligned with department and AMA goals.
- Build, manage, and sustain professional relationships with elected/appointed Section leaders. Provide strategic counsel to Section staff and elected/appointed leaders, advising them on and guiding them through relevant AMA policies, processes, and procedures.
- Lead, oversee, or contribute to, as appropriate, team interaction and collaboration with the AMA Board of Trustees, other AMA business units, and relevant external organizations.
- Serve as a member of the Sections Leadership Team, representing the needs of assigned Sections and contributing to the overall Sections strategy. Leads or otherwise contributes to ad hoc project teams as assigned.
Staff Management
- Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating performance, and supporting staff development.
- Manage staff in their day-to-day Section duties, maximizing productivity and ensuring adherence to established plans and guidelines.
- Guide Section staff in their collaboration with other AMA business units and external organizations.
- Manage budget within guidelines.
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in relevant discipline required. Knowledge of topics relevant to assigned Sections preferred.
- Minimum 7+ years of proven leadership experience in leading, influencing, and interacting with external stakeholders required. Experience working with medical students and physician leaders, or other professionals, preferred.
- Experience managing staff required; demonstrated ability to lead, develop, coach, and mentor staff required,experience managing remote teams preferred.
- Polished interpersonal, decision-making, analytical, and political skills to communicate and build relationships with all levels of leadership, staff, and management required.
- Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well-thought-out policy positions, and edit material prepared by others, required.
- Exceptional time and project management skills, with a focus on process improvement and workflow efficiency.Excellent organization, prioritization, and management skills to handle a variety of multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced, high-volume team environment, required.
- Travel and extended hours, including nights and weekends, as business demands dictate, required
