Director, Senior HR Business Partner
Job Description
Over the past decade, Amherst has scaled its platform to become one of the largest operators of single-family assets and has acquired, renovated, and leased more than 46,000 homes across 32 markets in the U.S. The firm delivers customized, stabilized cash-flowing portfolios of assets to its investors, wrapped in all the ongoing services required to manage, own, and finance the asset including property management, portfolio management, and a full capital markets team. In addition to its single-family rental platform, Amherst's debt business pursues two distinct credit strategies in mortgage-backed securities and commercial real estate lending. Over its 25-year history, Amherst has developed a deep bench of research and technology talent, and leverages data and analytics at every stage in the asset lifecycle to improve operations and preserve long-term value for our investors and the more than 188,000 residents the firm has served.
We are looking for a confident and self-motivated individual to lead our HRBP strategy and team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in advising and guiding business leaders on employee matters. This player/coach will be accountable for ensuring successful business outcomes by developing partnerships and enabling their team to do the same.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CPO, Head of Talent and Head of Total Rewards to create and implement initiatives and programs that provide leverage to the business and align with Amherst's mission and ethos
- Own leadership, and program execution for the HRBP team, who provide support across all functions
- Be familiar with employee relations best practices, documentation, and protocols supporting a highly distributed workforce
- Demonstrate solid understanding of business priorities, challenges and needs while staying focused on strengthening our ability to grow and retain top talent
- Provide advisory guidance to business leads on talent and performance management (coaching, counseling, human capital development, disciplinary actions) to assess and minimize legal risk with effective follow through and resolution
- Lead high impact projects with on-time delivery, measurable outcomes, and impact. Act as a change-agent as the business evolves
- Use an analytical, data-driven approach to proactively work with business leaders to help them grow teams that consistency deliver their best work
- Diagnose individual, team, and organizational issues that are negatively impacting culture and performance and recommend and facilitate delivery of the appropriate programs/plans to increase performance
- Address employee relations matters, anticipate people-related risks, and develop plans and actions to mitigate risks and address concerns
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirement related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Demonstrate the ability to quickly shift priorities to meet deadlines and effectively communicate, both verbal and written, with all levels of the organization
- Build, develop, and lead a team while demonstrating the ability to dive deep into complex issues and agility to work successfully on a broad spectrum of employee issues and business challenges simultaneously
- Act as point of escalation for cases that cannot be addressed at HRBP level
- Coach and lead the HRBP team to meet key KPIs including but not limited to retention, employee relations/engagement metrics, and successful case resolution
- Be flexible in your approach to business needs and demonstrate the ability to define and implement creative solutions to complex issues
- Take decisive and well-rounded action in high-pressure situations, consulting with key stakeholders where appropriate.
What you'll need to have:
- Minimum of 10 years Human Resources experience with at least 5 years as Business Partner in an evolving, geographically distributed organization
- Strong business acumen and proven record working with & coaching diverse stakeholders and translating complex information across functions.
- Track record of effectively handling complex employee relations issues, and addressing sensitive information and difficult situations with tact, discretion, and confidentiality
- Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including engagement and inclusion, performance & talent management, organizational design, compensation, and the HR regulatory environment
- Extraordinary attention to detail and follow-through
- Leadership and teambuilding skills
- Effective problem solver, resourceful in finding solutions
- Excellent interpersonal skills including persuasive communication, collaboration and influencing
- Strong Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel skills required
- Experience in using HRIS systems - Workday preferred
