Job Description

Sol Systems is seeking a full-time Director of Site Origination who will be responsible for securing site control for the Utility Scale Development team. The Director will lead land origination efforts across multiple markets for Sol Systems, ensuring a pipeline of viable sites for Solar and Energy Storage development. This position will require coordinated interaction with the Project Development, Grid Integration, and other teams. The Director will be responsible for:

  • Site Origination Campaigns
  • Identify siting areas to pursue
  • Manage Land Agents and their ongoing campaigns in multiple markets
  • Implement site origination initiatives in multiple markets to achieve company’s KPIs through direct mailings, digital outreach, and direct solicitation via phone calls
  • Manage internal and external resources to acquire qualified sites and hand off to Site Optimization team when site control is completed
  • Visit landowners and land sites as needed to assist staff in closing deals
  • Coordinate and implement training for new staff members
  • Maintain data, reports, documents, and communication related to all site initiatives
  • Oversee and approve all new leases to ensure compliance with Sol Systems internal processes and goals

Additional areas of involvement: 

  • Use and evolve company tools: Smartsheet, Radian Generation, Salesforce, Anderson Optimization, etc.
  • Ongoing communication with Chief Development Officer to support market development
  • Understand utility and state-specific policies, community engagement strategies in numerous markets to lead strategic land acquisition efforts

A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Five or more years of experience in land acquisition
  • Ability to travel as needed, up to 25% of the time
  • Proven track record of management and development of high performing teams
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey key ideas to landowners, stakeholders, and internal teams
  • Understanding of comprehensive solar development lifecycle
  • Experience and proficiency with leases, deeds, recording documents, LLC structures, trusts and other respective real estate documentation
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, identify risks, and alert the company of any opportunities or challenges arising during an initiative
  • Monitor internal team activities to ensure compliance with Sol Systems processes and applicable external regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or other major related to the responsibilities and competencies listed above. Master of Business Administration is preferred
  • Supplemental education or certifications in real estate, title, and/or solar energy is preferred
  • Experience with mapping systems such as Anderson Optimization is preferred

Location & Hours: This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
