Director, Site Reliability Engineering, Core Developer

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience with system design, algorithms, data structures, analysis, and software design.
• Experience building and leading technical teams of software engineers on customer-facing products.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Experience at a high tech company with a reputation for driving cutting edge products.
• Experience in design, data structures, and algorithms, and excellent analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing products and delivering successfully on timelines.
• Team-oriented management style with the ability to recruit and develop technical talent and to inspire and motivate multiple engineering teams to work together as a cohesive and highly productive unit.
• Innovative thinking, collaboration skills, and comfortable solving ambiguous problems.
• Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.

About the job

The Core Developer's mission is to ensure that Google's developer-focused products are reliable, supportable, scalable, and efficient. Core Developer Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) focuses on two main areas of developer-focused products: internal, first party and external, third-party. Internal Developer Infrastructure supports the Core Developer organization to provide Google's engineers with a centralized development stack and to enable an environment where they can rapidly and safely release features and services. Our external team is responsible for critical, user-facing infrastructure that support mobile applications from the Firebase suite of products. We are heavily involved with scalability, performance, and availability and driving architectural simplicity. Our teams engage both with the product and across the product area and the company.

You will partner across multiple organizations to set technical insight, strategy, and multi-year roadmap(s) that affect multiple products. You will partner with engineering, product, and software teams across organizations to land initiatives across Google that deliver improvements to reliability, performance, and resilience at scale. You will guide your team through the delivery of innovative solutions that proactively reduce reliability risk and maximize opportunities for your areas. You will manage teams and develop talent within SRE. You will also serve as the recognized leader across partner organizations for reliability, scalability, performance, and resilience. You will engage in community contributions to improve and evolve our culture and operations.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategy for overall SRE/Development alignment. Provide technical leadership development and recruitment inside the organization.
• Partner with Development to set technical insight, strategy, and roadmaps and ensure reliability is insured.
• Foster, grow, and adopt innovative technical solutions that solve requirements for our customers and enable high execution.
• Identify, prioritize, and staff infrastructure changes impacting the organization.
• Create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone can be successful and can contribute at a high level.
