Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in a similar role
  • 6 years of social media experience in a corporate or agency setting
  • 2 years of experience leading a team of social media team professionals
  • Excellent understanding of social media and/or digital strategy and its place in the marketing ecosystem
  • Experience working with at least one CMS and building/administering content in CMS environments
  • Excellent social media copywriting and/or visual design skills
  • Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics
  • Experience in the Facebook ad platform, including experience working with custom audiences
  • Ability to create agendas, schedules and check-ins and to project manage both team members and campaigns utilizing software like Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and other time management software
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Portfolio illustrating previous social media experience

Job Summary

As a Director of Social Media, you'll direct a team of social media professionals to administer social media marketing and advertising. You'll lead all social media planning, strategy, goal setting, budgets, execution and social media campaign adjustments to ensure alignment with company goals. You'll also be responsible for the development of all social media channels as well as brand awareness, content management, traffic generation, cultivation of leads and sales and reputation management.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Vice President of Marketing and other company leadership to develop social media strategy and goals and to align with all company business goals
  • Anticipate social media requirements and respond with appropriate solutions with limited oversight from senior leadership
  • Lead a team of social media professionals to translate strategic objectives into engaging social media content with associated high-performance tactics that drive results
  • Work with other design and marketing leaders as needed to develop, implement, execute and enforce social media guidelines and subsequent campaigns to support a wide variety of marketing initiatives, including brand awareness, lead generation and sponsorships
  • Present social media research, documentation, data analysis and interpretation; visualization of effectiveness; and suggested recommendations for all proposed and current social media marketing campaigns to company leadership
  • Collaborate with other multidisciplinary team leaders, like marketing, design narratives and leasing to create cohesive social media campaigns, and ensure marketing campaign objectives, brand consistency and ROIs
  • Create and present comprehensive analytics, SEO and web traffic reports
  • Create, implement and enforce the Social Media team's standards of marketing excellence, workflow processes, prioritization, quality review processes, community engagement, crisis management and communication systems
  • Develop systems to manage all social media crises, escalate posts and comments to senior leadership, work with senior leadership to develop responses, and monitor for reporting updates to appropriate leadership
  • Research and suggest relevant trends in social media, including new platforms, industry trends, multichannel campaigns and how they affect future strategy
  • Advocate within the company, educating and engaging company senior leadership on the benefits of social media
  • Lead the company's social media thought leadership by identifying opportunities to use social media networks to further business objectives
  • Develop knowledge of the city of Detroit, including its history, its neighborhoods and the recent developments
  • Follow the Marketing team's standards of marketing excellence, quality review processes, and communication systems
