The Hartford's Middle and Large Commercial (MLC) IT Team is seeking a highly motivated experienced IT Engineering leader who will be accountable for overseeing The Hartford's Application and Data migration to the AWS Cloud. Reporting to Middle and Large Commercial (MLC) VP, the Director Software Engineering will champion the technical and cultural shift to the Cloud Migration & Modernization effort and successfully oversee execution of the cloud migration strategy by understanding current state challenges, help establish a well-considered roadmap, help identify creative solutions and provide expert planning leading to execute the program with least business disruption. The candidate will be a high-caliber, multi-dimensional technologist with a proven track record of AWS cloud migrations specifically engaging in agile infrastructure solutions design at scale. The ideal candidate should have a reputation for building strong technology leveraging the AWS stack in a SaaS technology environment and understands how to get things done, navigating difficult conversations, and influencing others.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leads migration effort by coordinating with business partners, factory, and infrastructure activities. Responsible for program health for Middle and Large Commercial (MLC) Line Of Business (LOB).
  • The incumbent will provide leadership over MLC line of business migration factory team supporting migrations across Middle and Large Commercial portfolio. The lead may also have direct reports. The lead will have vendor management responsibility.
  • Manages change control process, LOB estimates/ financials, defines rollout timeline and processes, drive role clarity
  • Ensures advanced planning is conducted by move group and application
  • Owns/oversees/establishes delivery team structure and leads when HIG is not leveraging the Factory Model (i.e., rewrite)
  • Oversees resource ramp-up. facilitates benefit confirmation / disagreement.
  • Ensures Training plan development and execution, contributes to go/ no decisions by defining MVP and assessing camp level maturity
  • Advocates for cloud, automation, DevSecOps, SRE adoption
  • Sets expectations for internal and external teams, communicates LOB status to stakeholders, adapts plans to changing environment
  • Guiding a multi-year effort to migrate data and applications to the AWS public cloud platform.
  • The incumbent will work closely with the Chief Data Officer, Head of Infrastructure, VP and CIO VPs to oversee the migration of 30+ application and data assets to the Cloud along with influence service delivery.
  • The incumbent will develop strong partnerships with MLC business, Cloud Migration and Modernization i.e. Ignite team and collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and the CISO to meet functional, compliance and security requirements.
  • Ability to provide concise, transparent communications about potential risks, mitigations and business impacts in a timely manner.

Qualification:
  • 10+ years of experience in application software solution development along with managing software engineering teams.
  • 5+ Years proven experience in leading major cloud migration projects to AWS.
  • 5+ years' experience in hands-on software engineering, enterprise software development, and operational management
  • Strategic planning, process analysis and execution skills for introducing evolving architecture based solutions like Cloud, SaaS, and new UI frameworks.
  • Passion to stay current with relevant technology trends, experiment and learn new technologies, participate in internal technology communities.
  • Delivery experience to include: resource planning, project reporting, risk & issue management, cost/financial management skills
  • Prior RTE / Delivery Lead Experience, Ability to learn quickly, Highly organized with project management skills
  • Strong technical background, preferably with Software Engineering background
  • Cloud experience a plus. If no cloud experience, the ability to upskill with cloud training
  • Work closely with LOB Change Lead to support organizational readiness & training plan
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise with software engineering approaches, code migration, release management and configuration tools
  • Working knowledge and experience working within Agile framework, and with Agile Teams (i.e. Scrum, Kanban)
  • Experience driving cloud strategy, technology, and architecture discussions with customers
  • Excellent knowledge of IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, Public/Private/Hybrid clouds, and services
  • Demonstrable experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise workloads to the cloud
  • SME with extensive experience in Cloud Native technologies like Microservices, Containerization and Container Orchestration (Docker Containers, Kubernetes), Service Meshes, Serverless and Progressive Delivery
  • Strong knowledge in DevOps, creating CI/CT/CD pipelines
  • Strong knowledge integrating automation workflow tools (Jenkins/Hudson/uDeploy) with configuration management tools (Chef/Puppet/Salt Stack/Ansible)
  • Experience managing cost, schedule, and performance of projects.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$156,080 - $234,120
