This unique Software Engineering Product Manager position will be an integral member of the Finance and Investments (FIT) leadership team and will be accountable for 3 Agile lines comprised +/-30 associates and +/-10 contractors. In addition, this role will have the opportunity to lead the Investments Technology Advisory Committee which is a strategic process comprised of senior leaders from the Investments business designed to set the strategic direction for the department.
Nationwide Investments as a whole manages all the invested assets of Nationwide, supporting our property and casualty and financial services companies, as well as sub-advising certain fixed-income mutual funds and third-party accounts with total Assets Under Management well in excess of $143B.
This is a very important and visible role with consistent opportunities to make a difference for our most important and critical business functions underpinning the financial strength of our entire enterprise! Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills, team/talent development, and leadership rooted in turning key Agile concepts and practices into tangible, frequent delivery for business partners is required.
The ideal candidate should have the following experiences and qualifications:
- +10 years working within an Investment organization with knowledge of asset classes and underlying systems (i.e. Clearwater, Matrix, Factset, Bloomberg, etc.)
- +10 years experience leading Agile lines and supporting systems (Jira, Visual Mgmt boards, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Ability to interface with multiple levels of business partners, while influencing without authority.
- Background in managing multiple IT assets across various technology stacks, working with IRM and I&O partners.
- Familiar with operational and build metrics.
- Strong learning agility and ability to learn on the fly.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information.
- Ability to deliver on tight delivery timeframes.
**Ideally, would like to have candidates located in the Columbus, OH metro, but may consider remote as an option for the right candidate.

Nationwide pays based on a geographic-specific salary structure. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range. The role may also be eligible for either short-term or long-term incentive plans based on business and/or position-specific results. Newly hired full-time associates receive a minimum of 18 days paid time off each full calendar year, pro-rated quarterly based on hire date. Newly hired full-time associates at higher job levels may receive additional paid time off. You will also receive 8 hours of Lifetime paid time off and 8 hours of Unity Day paid time off. The range for this role is listed below.
In Washington, the salary range for Director, Software Engineering Product Manager is $129,000.00 to $233,000.00.

As a Software Engineering Product Manager, you'll be accountable for a suite of in-house or third-party applications. You'll lead teams of technology professionals to enable business outcomes and provide reliable customer-centric solutions and experiences.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures a viable total cost of ownership and ongoing health and wellness of applications.
- Owns the strategic vision, develops and implements application suite roadmaps that encompass evolving the application capabilities and operating platforms through the evaluation of business needs, competitive landscape, technology currency and information security considerations.
- Owns risk mitigation controls and provides support for internal and external audits.
- Supports the engineering build of the application suite and non technical efforts for the products.
- Represents voice of the customer, acts in a forward-facing role to business partners as an active member of a portfolio management team in the advocation of business case development, planning, financial management and evaluation of portfolio.
- Leads all aspects of associate management, including performance, salary administration, training and development, hiring, day-to-day management and disciplinary actions.
Reporting Relationships: Technology AVP or above. Leads a team of five or more technology professionals.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in management information systems, engineering, math, computer science or comparable experience and education preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications or designation are not required, but encouraged, e.g., Amazon Web Services, Azure, Scripting and Development Languages, Delivery Methods, Security).
Experience: Eight years of experience in application suite management with five years or more leading numerous teams across multiple technologies. Proven experience in empowering and building an engaged team.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Detailed understanding and expert knowledge of the systems development life cycle and modern methodologies, practices, tools, and techniques. Extensive knowledge of concepts and techniques in project delivery, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis. Ability to develop and implement roadmap strategies. Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills. Coaching and career development of team. Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
