Director, Solutions and Sales Engineering
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director, Solutions and Sales Engineering will be leading the Solutions and Sales Engineering team within the Product Innovation function at QuartzBio. This team will work with an interdisciplinary team including Product Development, Customer Success, Sales and Marketing to design the right-sized solutions for end-users of QuartzBio’s core data platform and associated product offerings. This role requires pairing extensive background in building SaaS Solutions in the life sciences, with customer-facing acumen and will be vital in in ensuring that the deployment of QuartzBio’s product offerings meets the needs of our growing internal and external customer base.
As a member of the Product Innovation function, the Director, Solutions and Sales Engineering will spearhead the alignment of existing QuartzBio products to customer pain points and will serve as a technical expert to support sales and marketing content (e.g. webinars), dedicated to rightsizing the solutions we deliver to sponsors. The Director, Solutions and Sales Engineering will work closely with other members of the Product Innovation function to collect, analyze, and propose innovative solutions to customer feature and process requests. Works with marketing and product managers to gather and provide insight from the field back to these groups. Additional responsibilities will include contributing to technical documentation and working closely with Product Management in prioritizing feature development.
Manages both pre-sale and post-sale technical staff and support activities including assessment of how company products meet customer needs and the preparation of product specifications for development and deployment of customized applications/solutions.
Selects, develops, and evaluates talent to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to:
- Set the Solutions and Sales Engineering vision and agenda translating this vision into a cohesive strategy for the team’s growth and integration across QuartzBio functions.
- Participates with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives.
- Effectively cascades functional strategy and contributes to development of organizational policies
- Translates business segment strategy into functional plans and guides execution.
- Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
- Build a team of solutions and sales engineers to support business needs developing right-sized technology solutions
- Draft and maintain Standard Operation Procedures and Work Instructions in collaboration with QuartzBio’s QA team
- Serve as a technical expert and client advocate as a member of the QuartzBio Product Innovation functions.
- Lead the technical requirements gathering process, contributing to scoping, User Requirements Documentation (URD), and handover of projects to other members of the Product Support team and delivery teams.
- Document and manage inbound feature requests from prospective and new customers, supporting the Product Management and Development teams in delivering new capabilities.
- Collect feedback and share observations on implementation success and contribute to developing or improving processes to drive business results.
- Collaborate internally with members of other Quartz teams such as Sales, Marketing and Customer Success to support integration of QuartzBio’s core data platform and associated SaaS product offerings into sales/marketing content

Qualifications:
Minimum Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, or related field
- At least 5 – 7 years of experience in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Software Development, Data Science or related field
- At least 3 years of leadership experience
- Experience with leading remote teams both business and IT across multiple geographies.
- Manage staffing, including recruitment, supervision, performance management, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Strong ability to build, influence, lead and motivate effective teams towards end results.
- Deep technical knowledge and aptitude to understand and translate complex technology concepts to industry solutions and anticipate future technology needs.
- Advanced technical and architectural knowledge in software development life cycle, quality assurance, technology frameworks and other related emerging technologies.
- Support for sales-related materials as part of the ongoing RFP cycle.
- Must be able to read, write, speak fluently and comprehend the English language

- Experience effectively communicating with all levels of staff, clients and other IT stakeholders.
- Ability to present work internally and externally
- Ability to interface with software engineering teams to communicate technical requirements
- Ability to interface with external teams to understand requirements and translate into actionable development goals
- Ability to work independently, exercising judgment within generally defined practices and selecting an approach for performance against high-level goals
- Extended work hours may be required to meet business demands
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally 10% of time
- Ability to interact with company personnel, build strong relationships at all levels across the business unit and organizations and understand business imperatives.
- Has broad knowledge of business and technology and able translate into business opportunities into tactical plans.
- Ability to create a culture of soliciting and utilizing customer feedback in shaping our products and services.
- Promotes Precisions guiding principles and ethical standards within and beyond area managed.
Beneficial:
