Director, Strategic Communications

Description

Tyler values communications as a strategic part of the company's business operations and mission. The Strategic Communications senior leader oversees corporate messaging and positioning for internal and external audiences and serves as a valued partner to all company departments and operating units.

Specific functions within Strategic Communications are public affairs, including reputation management and reactive media relations, proactive/earned media, corporate responsibility and sustainability communications, and internal communications, consulting with and supporting HR, IT, Security, Finance, and chief executives.

Responsibilities

Communications Strategy & Message Development

• Work with senior leaders to develop and implement clear communications, consistent across all audiences, for a variety of initiatives and programs
• Develop corporate key messages that reinforce Tyler's brand and market position
• Oversee communications for corporate acquisitions and business integrations
• Develop and enforce corporate standards for all communications

Leadership & Management

• Lead, develop, and guide the Strategic Communications team of 11 professionals
• Prepare and manage the team's annual work plan and budget
• Serve on the Marketing senior leadership team; support corporate and Marketing priorities

Internal Communications

• Consult with Tyler's operational and executive leaders to help shape and deliver communications
• Direct internal communication channels to promote consistent Tyler messages, reinforce and protect Tyler's culture, and foster knowledge sharing
• Ensure consistent, high-quality, appropriate delivery of messages

Public Affairs & Reputation Management

• Support the executive team in developing executive communications to team members, clients, shareholders, and investors
• Oversee all aspects of reputation management, including serving as the key lead on crisis communications and/or reactive media activities
• Manage relationships with external agency partners
• Produce annual financial and corporate responsibility reports and related reporting materials

Proactive/Earned Media Relations

• Oversee agency relationships, holding account services teams accountable for measuring and reporting performance outcomes
• Develop and execute a cohesive media relations strategy that aligns with Tyler's business priorities, complements our overall content strategy, and increases brand awareness
• Ensure business unit marketing plans are supported with earned media story development and pitch opportunities, resulting in positive coverage

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, and/or crisis communications
• At least eight years of experience holding management/leadership positions; proven ability to develop, mentor, and manage a high-performing team
• Bachelor's degree in English, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or similar field strongly preferred
• Outstanding communicator and presenter
• Expert writer and skilled editor, with an affinity for attention to detail
• Proven experience with crisis communications/reputation management
• Proven experience in driving earned media coverage and in overseeing PR agency relationships
• Strong multi-tasker with exceptional organizational skills
• Strong collaborator with exceptional relationship-building skills
• Intellectual curiosity, including an interest in and capacity for highly complex technical issues
