The Institute works in close coordination with and in support of Advanced Energy United (formerly known as Advanced Energy Economy), a 501(c)(6) business association. The businesses we represent are lowering consumer costs, creating millions of new jobs, and providing the full range of clean, efficient, and reliable energy and transportation solutions. Position Description
Advanced Energy United is seeking an experienced fundraiser to take charge of philanthropic strategies and grow our related revenues for the Institute. The Director of Strategic Partnerships will lead our philanthropic revenue generation with a focus on foundations in coordination with senior leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience with philanthropic fundraising in the advocacy space, excellent writing and editing skills, a self-starting entrepreneurial spirit, experience managing and training development staff, and a desire to support Advanced Energy United’s mission via revenue generation. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with the policy and communications teams.
Advanced Energy United has growing and diversified revenue streams, nearly doubling our revenues over the past four years. Our philanthropic revenues have set the pace for that growth, and the Institute now enjoys support from more than 20 philanthropic funders. We seek a dynamic fundraiser who can continue and accelerate our growth trajectory.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute philanthropic revenue strategies that grow the Institute and our ability to achieve our mission
- Initiate, maintain, and enhance the Institute’s relationships with foundations
- Work with policy team to build relationships with philanthropic foundations and individuals, create funding proposals and reports. Write and edit proposals and reports.
- Coordinate grant proposal submittals across a multi-disciplinary team
- Develop and implement a funder cultivation calendar including cultivation, impact updates, gift acknowledgements, appeal letters, etc.
- This position currently oversees one Supervise Strategic Partnerships Associate with anticipated growth over the next year. Position is responsible for the professional development of the associate and the team as it grows.
Required Qualifications
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required, including strength in persuasive writing, editing, and presentation design
- Five years of professional experience in a nonprofit development role, preferably in an energy or environmental setting
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff across multiple program areas to obtain content, information, and resources
- Experience managing and developing staff
- Prior experience and proficiency with database management or CRM highly preferred
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to understand and relay complex ideas
- Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team in a highly distributed organization
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- Willingness to travel (up to 30%)
