General Summary:

The person in the Director, Unum Services Expansion position is responsible for evaluating, prioritizing, sizing and helping launch new opportunities in adjacent markets in the US and for supporting the development of the business' long-term growth strategy. To manage and execute assigned projects in line with Unum Services priorities, working closely with AVP, Unum Expanded Solutions in order to support the overall strategy of the business. Near term focus will be on new products in the care economy space.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support development of Unum Services Expansion's strategy and strategic priorities by identifying, analyzing and addressing complex business issues and developing actionable plans
  • Ensure alignment of growth initiatives and opportunities, and Unum Services' overall growth strategy
  • To help define the range of fee-based business opportunity available to Unum and in the wider US market in which Unum could credibly operate in
  • Identify, analyze and prioritize new market/partnership development opportunities through extensive competitive research, local market sales and service activities, strong understanding of businesses adjacent to Unum and important macro trends (regulatory, technological, economic, social and demographic)
  • Assess likely revenue and profit impacts of ideas and evaluate against the costs to build business cases
  • Lead and facilitate the development of clear opportunities within the US market that the Unum Services Expansion business can implement
  • Potentially, launch new products/services in the marketplace in alignment with the above
  • Prepare presentations to senior leadership as needed
  • Develop and maintain internal network of contacts to validate concepts, support information gathering, and facilitate socialization of ideas

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in business strategy, corporate finance, business management or consulting or in benefits industry preferred
  • Comfortable working at all levels in the organization from the C-suite to business unit professionals; team builder.
  • Assimilate and adapt to Unum's culture while managing change using strong influencing skills, while operating in a new/unfamiliar environment, and working effectively within a highly matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge of the basic economics of financial services & business services companies
  • Focused on quick results and fast turnaround
  • Very strong problem structuring and analytical skills
  • Very strong verbal, written communication skills, including presentation writing
  • Superior project management skills; strong collaborator
  • Fast paced; comfortable with tight deadlines, fast turnaround times and ambiguity

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$87,200.00-$152,600.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including performance-based incentives, healthcare benefits, insurance benefits, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual plans.
