A Brief Overview

At Stanford Health Care, we have a commitment to sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion. The Supply Chain organization is a shared service serving all entities across Stanford Medicine. This position is responsible for the overall strategic design, development, implementation, management, metrics and execution of sustainable Supply Chain and supplier diversity program. This position will work very closely with the Executive Director of Sourcing and team members in that division to ensure execution of standards and practices as the pacesetter of a sustainable supply chain. The Director of Supply Chain Sustainability & Diversity will coordinate, champion, monitor, oversee, plan and report on Supply Chain's vision, mission, and sustainability roadmap. Furthermore, it will develop the diverse supplier roadmap and integrate the two in partnership with sourcing on purchasing practices. This role will provide senior leadership while leading and collaborating with Supply Chain, internal customers, and external suppliers to develop and maintain efficient, accurate and scalable sustainability program to support the enterprise. This role will build and implement the Supplier Diversity program by attending outreach events, partnering with business stakeholders and Category Management to identify new diverse suppliers that will achieve SHC's business objectives. This position is inclusive of all Stanford Medicine entities, including SHC, LPCH, SBC, ValleyCare, UHA and PCHA.

The director will follow the standards and practices set forward by the P.R.O.C.E.S.S. principles (purchasing reliable products and services that are customer oriented from equitable and sustainable sources). This role will integrate themselves as a key member in program such as Value Based Management, Sustainability committees within SHC/SMCH/TV, operational taskforces aimed at waste reduction and utilization management, and more.

This position will oversee a support staff member, a manager and will provide management and leadership.

Key relationships this position will work with include: Chief Supply Chain Officer, Executive Directors in Supply Chain, Chief Sustainability Officer, DE&I leaders in Human Resources, Contract Administrators, and Category Managers

What you will do

  • In collaboration with the Leaders in Supply Chain, establishes, implements, promotes, and maintains the vision for sustainability and supplier diversity.
  • Sustainability and supplier diversity strategic thought leader and partner for Executive Director, Business Ops & Transformation to help Supply Chain achieve and sustain best-in-class performance across key metrics.
  • Develops and encourages strong relationships with customer base. Identifies opportunities to improve service levels and processes to achieve high customer satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements performance measures and quality measures to ensure high service levels while maintaining cost effectiveness.
  • Ensures coordination across disparate systems supporting Stanford Medicine Supply Chain, including Vendor, Item and Contracts Master.
  • Creates strategies as well as tactical planning around the implementation of process and technology improvements.
  • Monitors key performance indicators and financial reports to ensure compliance with budgets and standards.
  • Champions projects and initiatives with cross-departmental impact.
  • Aggregates, monitors, and manages key metrics and essential information, reporting same to Administrative Director, Procurement Ops & Strategy - using same to develop and drive strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Leads, monitors and participates in Supply Chain and Health Care related organizations, learning from other organizations' successes, demonstrating where SHC/SMCH,VC Supply Chain is leading change and participating in defining global standards in health care Supply Chain.
  • Provides ongoing leadership, coaching and mentoring to staff, including timely performance evaluations, employee engagement activities, disciplinary action, and hiring/termination requirements.
  • Develops and mentors staff so that they are continuously challenged to add value through their actions and to embody a customer service spirit.
  • Leads and facilitates implementation of new or modified policies and procedures based on hospital best practices and compliance with Federal, State, and regulatory agencies. Ensures policies are followed across the organization through education to hospital departments and coordination with Finance, Compliance, Office of General Counsel, and Risk Management.
  • Regularly presents to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs other related and incidental duties as needed or assigned.
  • Partner with Category Management team to execute a Tier I and Tier II diverse supplier strategy.
  • Establish and monitor goals as they relate to diverse spend.
  • Understand related market trends, and where appropriate assist with RFIs/RFPs.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in managing diverse suppliers through negotiations and supplier selection for products and services.
  • Develop both short and long-term roadmaps for SHC's diverse supplier relationships, focusing on the implementation of strategic objectives.
  • Assist in onboarding diverse suppliers into the enterprise's ERP systems post supplier selection and contract execution and support the businesses in escalating issues with supplier performance, providing different levels of input based upon supplier segment.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a closely related field
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Seven (7) years of related work experience in Value Analysis, Contract Administration, Vendor Management, Procurement and/or Sourcing. With Masters degree, five (5) years of related work experience as outlined above
  • Minimum five (5) years experience leading high performing, goals-oriented teams
  • Healthcare experience highly desirable
  • Experience managing large-scale initiatives a plus
  • Experience simultaneously managing multiple initiatives essential
  • Knowledge of leading industry standards and best practice

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $74.66 - $98.94 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
