We are seeking a Director who will lead technical accounting and all internal and external reporting, including SEC reporting, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting, and internal financial reporting. Reporting directly to our SVP & Chief Accounting Officer, this leader, along with their team, will evaluate, debate, and document complex technical and operational accounting issues, serving as a trusted subject matter expert to senior executives across BigCommerce.
 
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead external SEC financial reporting and filing processes for quarterly, annual, and periodic reports, including drafting of financial statements, equity roll forward, EPS calculation, footnotes and MD&A, and completion of SEC and GAAP checklist.
  • Prepare internal financial reporting packages for senior management.
  • Monitor, research, and analyze technical accounting and financial reporting standards (e.g. GAAP, SEC, FASB, PCAOB) to prepare appropriate documentation and memos of accounting treatment of complex and highly judgmental transactions.
  • Lead the accounting around mergers and acquisitions, including purchase accounting and accounting for goodwill and intangible assets
  • Work closely with senior members of our external audit firm to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of BigCommerce’sfinancial statements and disclosures.
  • Support investor relations with the preparation of earnings release tables and ensure quality control of all external financial reporting and messaging.
  • Oversee and coordinate Sarbanes-Oxley controls over financial reporting; prepare data and other supporting information requests as needed for audits and reviews conducted by our external auditing firm.
  • Establish and lead ESG reporting processes including greenhouse gas emissions, diversity metrics, and social value calculations. This includes the development of ESG reporting policies, ESG related disclosures, compilation of the external report, and coordination with internal partners and external auditors.
  • Engage with the CFO’s organization on initiatives to optimize and improve our financial reporting and infrastructure.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders and teams to review and document current processes, identify risks and areas for improvement, designing controls to address potential gaps in the reporting and control environment, taking an innovative approach to automation, labor efficiencies, and process and policy evolution as we continue to scale.
Who You Are:
  • Licensed certified public accountant
  • 10+ years of combined audit, technical accounting, and SEC reporting experience
  • 7+ years direct people management experience; prior experience managing a global team members a plus
  • Understanding and experience with Sarbanes-Oxley, including the ability recommend and apply the appropriate business requirements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical accounting issues in writing and verbally, including in presentations to senior executives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence senior executives cross-functionally
  • Ability to operate optimally in a constantly evolving, high-growth environment
  • Track record of leading diverse, impactful teams with a focus on coaching, collaboration, and performance.
  • Experience in a large public accounting firm a plus but not required
  • Experience with ESG reporting and related frameworks such as TCFD and GHG Protocolos a plus but not required
  • Previous audit experience with a Big 4 Accounting Firm. Must have a deep understanding of the Auditing process and methodology
  • Must be proficient in US GAAP, SEC reporting and technically strong in financial reporting, especially revenue recognition
  • Experience managing the financial statement close and reporting process
  • Strong knowledge of risk management and internal controls
  • Prior experience at SAAS/Technology high growth companies and high performance teams
  • Experience with SaaS based accounting and business applications (web-based accounting platforms, SalesForce, ePayment Solutions, and digital processes)
  • Experience with the Zuora billing system a big plus
  • Possess a strong attention to detail, operate effortlessly in a highly dynamic environment and leverage cross-functional working skills to move with agility

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range (or have the minimum apply to them), but rather, the exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s location, relevant knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
Targeted salary range
$147,400—$249,300 USD
