What You’ll do: 

As a key member of the controllership team, the Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting will be responsible for the full financial reporting process, as well as technical accounting leadership within the organization. This position will hold ownership for preparation and review of all financial reporting documents for our global organization. Reporting to the VP Controller, this role will also hold responsibility for technical accounting including drafting and reviewing technical memos across the full spectrum of accounting topics, including revenue recognition, partnering with the Director, Accounting and working together with key team members to implement processes to achieve accounting conclusions. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB pronouncements and all other reporting guidance, as well as experience in a global organization. 

  • Refine and scale the company’s end to end reporting process, including enhancement of periodic reports.
  • Design and implement a process for complying with all reporting needs, including internal and external reporting.
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of reporting software to streamline internal and external reporting.
  • Partner with the broader finance team to prepare and review financial information included in the company's external communications, including to investors.
  • Maintain the company's GAAP checklist and ensure that the company’s financial statements comply with current requirements.
  • Stay current on changes to Accounting Standards Codifications (ASC) and SEC regulations and evaluate and communicate impact on company’s financial reporting, including preparation of key technical memos as necessary.
  • Maintain and update key technical accounting policies of the company and conduct accounting research on complex accounting and reporting matters.
  • Act as key point of contact for the Company’s external audit process and take ownership for all technical accounting topics.
  • Work closely with the broader finance team to ensure consistent implementation of accounting guidance and disclosure requirements for budgeting, forecasting and internal reporting.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to support an eventual IPO. 
  • Help to prepare for and support SOX compliance requirements and appropriate disclosures for quarterly and annual reporting.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 12+ years of relevant work experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC accounting and reporting requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills 
  • Self-motivated, reliable, flexible, deadline-oriented, having a keen attention to detail, and ability to complete multiple tasks in a timely fashion, independently, and with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional planning, project management, and organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of Excel

Nice to Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Combination of private industry and public accounting experience
  • IPO experience a plus
  • Prior experience in actively drafting and preparing SEC filings, including XBRL tagging
  • Prior experience designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures in a SOX-compliant environment
  • Experience with NetSuite is preferred

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • CPA license required
  • 10+ years of general professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • 8+ years of accounting experience typically required

The anticipated salary range for this position is $169,000- 236,600. The base salary range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s skills, experience and other qualifications.

This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
