About this opportunity:
The Director, Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting will define and build Freenome’s Technical Accounting applications and disclosures in advance of commercial operations and public status. This will include adopting accounting policies and guidelines, leading SOX compliance, preparation of SEC filings, participating as a key contributor to financial reports and filings, and providing practical direction for the organization in the areas of technical and complex accounting policies and transactions. The ideal candidate has deep Life Science technical accounting experience, is known as a solutions-oriented cross-functional partner and will have a significant impact on the continued growth of an organization dedicated to changing the entire landscape of cancer.
What you’ll do:
- Ownership and accountability for all policies and processes related to technical accounting, SEC reporting, and defined aspects of month-end close
- Evaluate and continually improve accounting procedures, processes, and systems to ensure standardized close processes and efficient operations
- Responsible for implementing and evaluating internal controls within financial reporting and consolidation
- Lead the technical accounting and SEC reporting functions, ensuring compliance and accurate presentation of financial statements and disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC rules
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual internal financial statements as well as S-1, 10-Q, 10-K, and any other SEC required filings including footnote preparation
- Manage SOX 404 implementation and ensure reporting requirements related to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act are met
- Research and evaluate complex accounting transactions and provide guidance on the appropriate accounting treatment
- Support data-driven financial analyses for future research and development investments with input to R&D, Commercial, and FP&A stakeholders
- Stay abreast of changes to accounting standards and implement new or revised processes and procedures to ensure compliance
- Analyze peer company filings and industry reports to assess trends in financial disclosures
- Determine and manage timelines for financial statement preparation and filing and work collaboratively with various business partners to ensure timelines are met
- Prepare presentations for the Audit Committee and senior leadership on an array of financial topics
- Assist with the preparation of the quarterly earnings release and related documents
- Review assumptions used to calculate stock-based compensation
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations
- Where applicable, support M&A due diligence efforts, including planning, due diligence review, technical accounting position, opening balance sheet, purchase price allocation and finance integration planning
Must haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
- 10+ years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of public accounting and 5 years of public company industry experience, preferably in the biotechnology or diagnostics industry
- Strong technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX 404, and SEC reporting standards, as well as experience with technical research
- Experience with drafting accounting memos supporting financial statements and footnote disclosures as part of filings with the SEC (10-Q and 10-K)
- Ability to draft original disclosure, MD&A, and other public and private communications
- Experience with assessing and documenting internal controls
- Ability to articulate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to compose, summarize and present material to communicate complex concepts and gain consensus
- Demonstrated ability to independently coordinate multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills enabling effective communications with all levels of management
- Proactive, organized, and takes ownership of projects and deadlines
- Meticulous and superior attention to details

- Quarterly travel to corporate office and as needed

- Industry experience in diagnostics
- Strong working knowledge of Netsuite
Benefits and additional information:
The US target range of our base salary for new hires is $183,000 - $280,000. You will also be eligible to receive pre-IPO equity, cash bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on several factors, including but not limited to, location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
