The Director of Technology Management, part of the Common Architecture and Technology (CAT) group, is responsible for the strategy, development, and adoption of a broad set of digital and platform technologies across Rockwell Automation.

The CAT organization plays an essential role in the evolution of a system strategy by incubating new technologies and developing reusable toolkits, libraries and services for use in Rockwell products and solutions. The Director of Technology Management leads the team that is responsible for the management of the technology portfolio from definition through development and finally to adoption.

This position requires a strong understanding of the industrial automation market, competitive offerings and emerging technologies to provide effective leadership and direction for the portfolio. This role also interacts frequently with Rockwell Automation business leaders, engineering, partners and key customers.

Essential Functions:

The Technology Management team provides strategic technology and system-level direction to business units and engineering teams in support of business unit plans and company objectives.

What you will do:

  • Understand a broad set of technologies used in industrial automation including security, functional safety, networks, software and cloud computing.
  • Develop a system strategy and technology/toolkit roadmaps to meet existing and anticipated market requirements.
  • Communicate strategy and roadmaps to the engineering groups, product businesses, partners and key customers.
  • Promote innovative ideas to create sustainable market differentiation.
  • Implement annual operating plans to support the long-term business strategies.
  • Develop and implement business processes for technology/toolkit development, adoption and lifecycle management.
  • Support the evolution of a system strategy across Rockwell Automation.
  • Incubate new technologies and partner with businesses for productization and adoption.
  • Combine strong leadership, interpersonal skills, technical capabilities and market/business knowledge to create a customer-focused vision for the future.
  • Drive problems toward resolution when encountering ambiguity, uncertainty, or inflexibility.
  • Hold self and others accountable for achieving goals and meeting commitments.
  • Ensure the team has the training to keep current with emerging technologies and the market dynamics.
  • Motivate and support a team with extensive technical experience across a broad set of technologies.
  • Cultivate networks with people across a variety of functions and locations within the organization.
  • Create an environment that encourages the open exchange of information and viewpoints
  • Conform to all aspects of the company's goals, values, and standards of ethical conduct.
  • Generate and maintain five-year strategic plans, documenting strategies, utilization of resources, impact on business results, and implementation of action plans required to achieve worldwide product/market development goals.
  • Balance the requirements of business units to optimize the Rockwell Automation financial objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other Engineering Discipline.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Minimal travel required is 20% including a few international trips per year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of experience in an engineering environment with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Master's Degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation's portfolio of products.
  • Experience in product development and product management.
  • Experience with Agile development methodology.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills and ability to collaborate across various functions and business units to achieve common objectives.
  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
