Director - UX Writing

At Figma the UX Writing Team’s impact goes well beyond strings. At our core we distill complex ideas—first internally to drive alignment and strategy then in product to craft consistent accessible experiences. As Figma evolves into a sprawling multi-product platform it’s critical that we deliver on that promise. While content is our bread and butter we believe UX Writing is uniquely equipped to define intuitive mental models and create cohesive in-product narratives well before we put pen to page.

We’re looking for someone who shares that belief—a strategic collaborative leader who can build deep relationships advocate for and empower the team and shape the future of the craft.

You’ll be tasked with leading a stellar staff of senior writers with deep expertise and diverse backgrounds. In this uniquely cross-functional role you’ll need to partner with product engineering research and marketing and collaborate with executive leadership in order to be successful.

This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.

What you'll do at Figma:

• Oversee the UX Writing function ensuring its effectiveness in defining alignment strategy user experience and content.

• Manage a team of 6 senior writers supporting their practice growth and mental health.

• Partner with cross-functional leaders and executives to generate strategy and define success in support of the IC writers.

• Allocate resources thoughtfully to ensure the team is doing the most impactful work possible.

• Socialize the team’s skills impact and insights across the organization.

• Advocate and build a vision for the craft of UX Writing both at Figma and across the industry.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• 3+ years of experience leading writing teams.

• 6+ years of people management experience at fast-paced tech companies.

• Experience creating and scaling writing teams processes and programs.

• Experience developing trust and rapport with a broad range of stakeholders including executives.

While it’s not required it’s an added plus if you also have:

• Experience working on creative or design tooling either as a manager or IC.

• A large network of connections in the UX Writing and UX Design communities.

• Ideas for or openness to evolving the craft of UX Writing beyond its traditional definitions.

• Strong opinions / perspectives on UX design beyond language.
