As our Director of Venture Research & Medical Economics, you will lead Redesign’s health economics research to create, validate or pivot proposed business models for new ventures and spot and prioritize opportunity spaces based on thematic and industry trends. 

You will source, analyze, and synthesize medical cost data and clinical medical journals and other research sources to support the creation and acceleration of Redesign’s healthcare companies and portfolio. 

As Director of Venture Research & Medical Economics, you will report to and work with our Head of Venture Insights, collaborating cross-functionally across Redesign’s New Business Development, Strategy & Finance, Product, Marketing, Operations, and Legal teams.

This position can be located at our New York City headquarters or be fully remote. 

What you'll do:
  • Medical Economics Research
    • Articulate use cases tied to business objectives, identify and help source various types of health data (e.g., claims and disease data) required, and run associated analyses to generate actionable insightsCommunicate insights in a clear and concise manner to a multidisciplinary team, focusing on how insights impact business development and the company’s broader portfolio strategy
    • Maintain a close pulse on the intersection of emerging technologies, business models, and clinical studies in priority spaces to identify potential areas of opportunity
  • Thematic/ Industry / Market Research
    • Explore and analyze themes, industry sectors, markets and trends in the healthcare industry
    • Perform competitive analyses and identify current best practices and market leaders including business models, market sizing, funding trends, and other key metrics
    • Help create and maintain an inspiration company database for use in Redesign’s Operating Company ideation and research endeavors
  • Workshop development and support
    • Coordinate with the Head of Venture Insights and New Ventures Managing Directors to create scalable workshop processes and approaches
    • Conduct discrete research and analyses in support of ongoing workshops, including market sizings, customer journey mappings, and unit economic teardown
  • Thought leadership and knowledge sharing
    • Develop collateral throughout day-to-day work that can be leveraged across all Redesign departments
    • Coordinate with our Product and Data teams to ensure research and analyses follow best practices and are integrated into our knowledge management system and thought leadership assets
What you'll need:
  • Background
    • Minimum 7 years of experience working in healthcare preferentially with: 
      • Deep payer experience or value-based contracting or population health consulting experience focused on payers
      • A strong focus on healthcare analytics (e.g., medical economics research, medical cost trends)
  • Specialized/Technical Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to source, analyze, compile, and summarize relevant data (e.g., claims data, other medical economics data) related to medical costs/claims into salient insights supporting the organization strategy
    • Value Based Contracting experience
    • Experience conducting market diligence, business plan creation, and business or partner analysis
    • Experience managing vendor contracts and relationship to meet desired data/information needs
    • Building and leading financial and quantitative analyses and preparing dashboards using a data visualization tool such as Looker, Tableau or Power BI 
    • Strong data querying skills using tools such as SQL or SAS Enterprise Guide
