What you will be doing

The Director of Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB), reporting to the VP of Financial Analysis, will own the global ZBB initiative at AmerisourceBergen (ABC). This strategic position will quantify programs and provide leadership in driving this cost elimination initiative. The role will lead the ZBB process across ABC, working with various cross-functional teams to manage spend categories (packages) and package owners. The Director will report progress to the FP&A Leadership team on a regular basis. The role will also work closely with the FP&A Center of Excellence to maintain tools and program manage the creation of new forms utilizing said tool(s).

• Take full ownership of ZBB initiative, including influencing senior leaders across ABC to incorporate best ZBB planning practices across global ABC
• Coach and monitor progress made by different international cross-functional teams
• Oversee ZBB budget input and review process during annual planning process
• Define change management approach to drive ZBB mindset across the entire organization
• Develop strategy to expand ZBB to additional spend categories, including ensuring the appropriate technologies are in place to support the budgeting process
• Provide regular status updates on ZBB progress, savings opportunities to FP&A Leadership team, executive leadership and steering committee
• Ensure project objectives are met by monitoring and measuring project progress regularly to determine variances from the project plan, identify risks, assess and analyze, and report in a timely and consistent manner to the leadership teams.
• Develop monthly variance reporting / dashboards by spend package to track progress made versus savings opportunities identified in budget
• Travel occasionally or as needed (5%-10%)

What your background should look like

Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, computer sciences or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four year Bachelor's Degree program; Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics is a plus; Normally requires a minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible related experience (including previous experience implementing Zero-Based Budgeting); Project management experience is required and a professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA) is desired, but not required.

• Proficient Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Extensive background experience implementing Zero-Based Budgeting
• High degree of analytical capability with the demonstrated ability to structure business case around a high-level strategic vision.
• Strong strategic skills, with the proven ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations.

• Demonstrated in depth understanding of common business and cost drivers, financial statement analysis, and deep-dive analysis.
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices.
• Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
• Proficiency in Essbase, Smart View, and Hyperion Planning.
• Experience leading large and complex team projects independently.
• Must have strong attention to detail and interest in working at a very detailed level
• Knowledge of various financial management areas such as financial statement analysis, plan development, and financial analysis
• Advanced to expert computer skills with MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
• Experience with Hyperion Essbase Add-In, Hyperion Planning, and Oracle SmartView
• Familiarity with advanced modeling techniques to assist with long range planning forecasting for an integrated P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash flow statement
