Distinguished Engineer, Product Support

Bloom Energy, a solid oxide fuel cell company, is looking for a Distinguished Engineer, Product Support to join its world class team. This individual should be a dynamic professional who is looking for a rewarding future in one of today's most exciting technologies.

You will be responsible for supporting technical aspects of operating world-wide fleet of fuel cell power generation systems. This individual will be a member of the Product Support team and work alongside a cross functional team comprising product development engineers, application engineers, field technicians and construction personnel.

Location: This position is based at Bloom Energy Headquarters in San Jose, CA.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Lead a group of Electrical Engineers that perform Mission Critical Commissioning, handle complex site design and escalations
• Provide technical support on fuel cell and electrolyzer system operation and maintenance, identify emergent field issues, track failure trends, perform root cause analyses, and drive resolution of technical issues
• Manage sustaining engineering projects for the Product Support team, cross functional groups within Bloom Energy (BE), and BE customers with unique technical challenges.
• Serve as subject matter expert on power systems design and operation
• Develop self as expert on operational protocols and designs at Bloom Energy
• Work with customers when issues arise to ensure customer requirements are understood; ensure Bloom Energy hardware function is explained
• Responsible for developing and executing Methods of Procedures (MOPs) for commissioning as well as ongoing maintenance tasks after projects are handed over
• Collaborate with cross functional groups within the company to develop countermeasures for field issues and push for continuous design improvements
• Develop formal documentation and training for Field Service Technicians, system operators and BE customers

Required Skills and Experience:

• BSEE with power systems focus
• 10+ years of experience in design, operation or maintenance of high voltage (480Vac) high power (>100kW) equipment
• Knowledge of electrical equipment used in datacenters and other critical power facilities such as: UPS, Battery, transfer switch, low and medium voltage switchgear, protective relaying, instrumentation, and diesel gensets.
• Knowledge of codes (NEC, NFPA), design standards and regulations
• Ability to work safely and design work procedures with particular attention to electrical work safety (NFPA-70e)
• Experience using meters, power analyzers, oscilloscopes
• Professional and collaborative - comfortable working closely with a team
• Self-starter - proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills that include the following:
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization effectively, from facilities personnel to senior management
  • Ability to confidently and clearly defend technical recommendations utilizing sound industry standards and referencing past performance
• Able to travel up to 20% of the time in the United States as well as internationally

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• MSEE and/or PE EE license
• Extensive design of power electronics for inverters, power supplies, and UPS systems
• Knowledge of distributed power generation technology for fuel cells, solar PV, battery storage, or wind
• Customer engagement experience; ability to communicate clearly and professionally

Salary Ranges:

$194,300.00 - $279,700.00
