PATHWAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW:Ā The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. Provides students with work experience related to the career goals while offering eligibility to permanent employment upon completion.   • Maintain a GPA of 2.5 and above with no grade below a "C"
  • Maintain at least a half-time course load at the collegiate level.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following:

Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher AND maintain at least a half time or full time course load.

AND

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field.

One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. The high school curriculum must be approved by a State or local governing body. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Special Provisions/or Interns with Previous Related Education or Experience.

Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified.

Applicants must provide documentation from the educational institution verifying current enrollment with at least a half time or full time course load. This documentation may be a Current Enrollment Verification Certificate or a statement of current enrollment or acceptance letter (which verifies all of the required information).

AND

Quality Ranking Factor:

  • A graduate student in clinical or counseling psychology program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association.

NOTE: The above quality ranking factor is preferred. Therefore, applicants who possess the quality ranking factor can be ranked above those who do not, but no candidates can be rated ineligible solely for failure to possess a quality ranking factor.

If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

PATHWAY PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Allows students to be exposed to the work of the Government through Federal internships while pursuing their degree. This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements.Ā Ā It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals.Ā

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

TheĀ FairĀ ChanceĀ Act prohibits specific inquiries concerning an applicant’s criminal or credit background unless the hiring agency has made a conditional offer of employment to the applicant.Ā  An applicant may submit a complaint, or any other information, to the agency within 30 calendar days of the date of alleged non-compliance by contacting the EEO Office in the Central Office atĀ [email protected].

After a conditional offer is received, all applicants must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements related to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation.

The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score of 68 must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees.

The selectee for this position will be serving in an excepted appointment of one year or less and will not be eligible for a non-competitive conversion appointment into the competitive service.

THIS IS AN UPWARD MOBILITY POSITION. Permanent employees with one year of BOP service in a single increment series GS-01 through GS-08 position. Any Federal Wage System employee may also participate provided they have completed one year of BOP service.

Supervisory employees may not be included in formal upward mobility programs unless they are in a single increment series position below the GS-09 level. Pay retention is mandatory for any employee receiving pay higher than the maximum rate of the grade in which he or she is placed under a formal upward mobility program if the general requirements for program participation are met.
