POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Donation Coordinator (DC) Field Trainer coordinates all functions of the 24x7x365 donation program and provides technical training and support for all aspects of the Donation Coordinator roles including receiving referrals and assessing for donation suitability, obtaining appropriate authorization, evaluating donor medical/social history, determining donor suitability with all DNWest tissue processing partners, coordinating recovery arrangements and logistical responsibilities. The DC Field Trainer works collaboratively with a range of professionals from both inside and outside DNWest by communicating with donor family members, the Donor Operations management team, Manager on Duty, recovery staff, organ clinical staff, coroners, funeral homes, hospital staff, and other key individuals and groups in a manner that reflects positively on the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates as a subject matter expert (Referral Intake, Donor Screening, Donation Discussion, Case Coordination, and Shift Lead) that partners with Learning and Development and Donor Operations management to evaluate, develop, and update training plans and materials for DCs.
  • Knowledge of department quality assurance standards, processes, and procedures including ability to identify and correct paperwork errors and complete additional staff training in real time.
  • Effectively and professionally trains Level I, II, and Lead DC’s according to an established department training plan.
  • Works with Senior Donation Coordinators (SDC) to identify trends and keeps management informed of variances in application of department policies and procedures.
  • In conjunction with the department team and Learning and Development, assists with onboarding and on-going instructor-led and on-the-job training of team members within their focus area.
  • Partners with Learning and Development to ensure that learning objectives are taught, and assessments are conducted with consistency.
  • Documents training progress in the learning management system in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Collaborates with management, SDCs, and Learning and Development to attend check-ins and provide feedback to staff. Recognizes data trends and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Advocates for learners by creating supportive learning opportunities.
  • Participates in the train-the-trainer program and the community of practice for learning.
  • Identifies process errors that may result in additional staff training.
  • Assesses administrative departmental situations, making sound and appropriate decisions, and effectively communicating with appropriate parties.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated excellence in all essential functions of the DC I, II and Lead roles.
  • 1 or more years of experience as a Lead DC or equivalent experience with an Organ Procurement Organization.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively maneuver through Microsoft office systems, computers, and office equipment, and use a telephone system.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  • Skilled in fostering an environment that promotes learning and practicing technical concepts/terms.
  • Able to communicate with clarity and kindness and able to both give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff, and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  • Proactive team player who can multitask with ease and uphold organizational core values.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, priority-setting, and strategic skills. Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills. Thrives in a fast-paced dynamic environment and adjusts to new priorities as required.
  • Awareness of or willingness to learn standard practices in presentation, facilitation, and following facilitator guides for established training.
  • Awareness of or willingness to learn the basics of adult learning theory and the impact of curriculum and assessment design.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disease processes and related conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent degree/diploma/certification in an allied health field is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience may substitute for educational preference.
  • Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP), Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC), or Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS) certification in addition to required education preferred.
