Job Description

Certarus, a North American leader in the delivery of natural gas fuel, has an opening for a DOT Specialist to join our winning team. We are a public company whose business is delivering “Low Carbon Energy Solutions” through the compression, transportation, and integration of CNG for the energy services, mining, forestry and industrial sectors. Our solutions target diesel and propane fuel displacement projects to lower operating costs and reduce environmental impact.

Summary:

Certarus’ DOT Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the oversight of all aspects of development, implementation and standardization of the regulated transportation compliance program for the company across Canada and USA. This role reports into the Lead Transportation Compliance Coordinator.

Schedule:

  • The schedule follows normal business hours with extra work hours when required.
  • The position is based in Houston; however, frequent travel expected up to 50% of the year to Certarus Hubs between the US and Canada. Valid passport required travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Regional Managers on implementation and compliance of all relevant transportation regulations, including FMCSA, PHMSA, DOT, Transport Canada and Hazardous Materials / Dangerous Goods, and insurance requirements.
  • Track and report statistics related to Driving and Transportation performance
  • Support driving-related incident investigations.
  • Submitting Data Q challenges on the Company’s behalf, when applicable.
  • Develop and deliver compliance related safety bulletins and safety meeting topics.
  • Liaise with client and customer entities as needed related to incidents or compliance.
  • Liaise with driving safety technology partners on compliance issues.
  • Regularly review and complete internal DOT and Transport Canada hub audits, including corrective actions.
  • Regularly monitor and assist with key tasks related to audit readiness and the CSA BASIC categories where compliance must be maintained to sustain a satisfactory safety rating.
  • Ensuring that all driver vehicle inspection reports with safety defects identified are fully completed and notes of repairs verified.
  • Assist in developing, producing, and maintaining relevant DOT training content for regulated drivers.
  • Serve as a technical expert on matters relating to driving regulations in both Canada and USA.
  • Serve as a key member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • Post Secondary Education and/or relevant certifications/designations.
  • 5 years in a DOT Specialist or Transportation Compliance role.
  • Strong knowledge of US & Canadian Transportation regulations, including Pipeline and Hazardous Materials (PHMSA)/Dangerous Goods Transportation.
  • Capable of working in an autonomous environment; as well as in collaborative groups.
  • Ability to travel to the various Certarus corporate and field locations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office with an aptitude to learn new computer programs and mobile applications quickly.
