Agency Description
The Department of Planning and Development works in collaboration with communities to promote, plan, preserve, and develop successful neighborhoods for all. Reaching these goals requires city agencies to work together with residents, businesses, developers, advocates, funders, and each other. Planning and Development has a team of agencies that do just that. Our agencies include:
Philadelphia Art Commission
Philadelphia City Planning Commission
Division of Development Services
Division of Housing and Community Development
Philadelphia Historical Commission
Zoning Board of Adjustment
We also partner with the PHDC
Job Description
The intern will be helping weed through, dispose of old materials, reorganize the DPD flat-file storage cabinets, and replace items with other historically significant materials. They will work closely with the staff archivist with other duties if they complete the project before the allotted time.
Working hours are generally 10-20 hours per week.
Essential Functions
- Organizing
- Cleaning and upkeep of archival items
- Investigative research within databases
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Attention to detail.
- Database research experience.
- Basic knowledge of Excel.
- Passion and interest in equitable archival work and architectural history.
- Willingness to learn the fundamentals of archival work.
- Not required but encouraged: experience with library work and familiarity with archival terms.
Qualifications
Student must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2024 semester. Majors may include History, Public History, Library Science, English, Planning, and Anthropology, and other related fields. No other experience is necessary.
