Job Description

About Epirus

Epirus is a high-growth technology company that develops solid-state, human-safe directed energy systems that enable unprecedented counter-electronics effects and power management solutions to enhance power efficiency in defense and commercial electronics. With a constant emphasis on innovation, we are redefining modern power systems to increase the velocity of change for our customers and bring tomorrow's capabilities to life, today.

Job objective:

Epirus is leveraging its unique high-power solid-state amplifier design experience, software-defined digital phased array technology, and SmartPower IP to perform exciting R&D projects in the radar, electronic warfare, and communications spaces. This role would primarily support these R&D efforts and will be expected to work effectively on small, agile teams to rapidly deliver solutions. Ideal candidates should have experience with developing digital signal processing algorithms for radar/EW/comms products, either in the aerospace/defense industry or relevant commercial industries. DSP algorithm development here involves starting from initial conceptual design, prototyping in Matlab and/or Python, and then working with teammates to translate the algorithm to the target compute hardware (software and/or firmware). There will be a mix of largely-independent work as well as highly collaborative work.

 Duties

  • Define, design, and implement signal processing algorithms such as signal synthesis, modulation/demodulation, digital pre-distortion, electronic beamforming, etc.
  • Define, design, and implement higher-level algorithms such as target tracking, feature extraction, adaptive control / decision-making
  • Work closely with RF and other hardware engineers to understand hardware capabilities and control requirements
  • Work with Firmware and Software engineers for algorithm insertion onto target hardware
  • Model current or future systems to determine performance or requirements in MATLAB and/or Python
  • Work within an agile scrum team
  • Work to create minimum viable products from concepts and ideas

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience, with at least 2 relevant projects with digital signal processing development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline, Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience with RF and/or EO/IR systems
  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Python
  • Strong foundations in mathematics, linear algebra, and physics
  • Familiarity working with hardware, reviewing schematics and data sheets
  • US Citizenship and/or Permanent Residency (Future security clearance may be required)

Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership experience within a program or project
  • Experience synthesizing and demodulating high-throughput radar/EW/communications waveforms
  • Experience with VHDL and Verilog
  • Experience with C++

At Epirus, we work to create innovative power solutions to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. We are forward thinking in nature and committed to bringing tomorrow’s capabilities to life, today. To deliver on our mission, our team is comprised of individuals with deep expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering (including radio frequency and digital circuit design) as well as software design. We are always looking for top-tier problem solvers and changemakers to join our fast-growing team.

As required by the Equal Pay Transparency Act, Epirus provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
For the state of California only, the range of starting pay for this role is:
$104,000—$131,000 USD
