Dürr is one of the world's leading suppliers of products, systems, and services, mainly for automobile manufacturing. Our range of products and services covers important stages of vehicle production. As a systems supplier, we plan and build complete paint shops and final assembly facilities. We also manufacture and supply automotive and industrial paint and sealing robotics. Our environmental technologies deal with procedures to improve energy efficiency and the exhaust air purification.
We are a growing organization, and we are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to join our team. Together, with the momentum of our business vision, we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Dürr influences at a global level.
Location: Southfield, MI
Position Summary: The Technical Sales Engineer combines technical knowledge with sales skills to provide advice and support on a range of products. They are the key point of contact for clients and provide both pre-sales and after-sales advice. They liaise regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments, such as research, development, design, purchasing, production and quality, as well as senior company managers.
Alternative / Suggestions: Software is a strategic growth area at Dürr. The role of the technical sales engineer is to build up new buying centers at the customers, expand existing sales channels and advise customers about the best practices for software within production. They liaise regularly with other members of the Dürr sales team, production, IT, quality and senior managers from our customers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Build up a network at key customers and develop new sales opportunities
- Identify and develop new customers
- Deliver sales pitches and product presentations
- Manage and maintain multi-level buying centers with several large customers
- Derive and understand customer requirements
- Calculate project costs and create tailored customer quotations
- Consult customers about IT-Solutions in various deployment scenarios (Keywords: MES, Analytics, HMI, Predictive Maintenance, on-premise, cloud)
- Ability to understand and abstract production software to customers with varying degrees of IT know-how
- Prioritize sales opportunities based on cost and benefit
- Work closely with an international software sales team
- Help define and then meet sales targets
- Provide weekly status reports
- Conduct product demonstrations for customers as well as the internal sales team
- Travel approximately 20%

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical discipline
- Excellent communication skills (networking, presentations, sales pitches)
- Independent drive to pursue opportunities and customers
- Ability to work in a local and international sales team
- Two years or more of B2B Sales experience
- Experience with production software (MES/HMI/ERP) is a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of process equipment design
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Knowledge of SAP is a plus
- Ability to understand and maintain project schedules
- Good time management skills
- Good organizational skills
- Good technical writing skills
- Able to effectively communicate with engineering and estimating departments, contractors, suppliers, and customers
- Able to technically define problems and propose solutions
- Adaptable to change in a learning environment
- Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary
Physical Demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
