Dynamics 365 Lead Architect

The Dynamics 365 Lead Architect is responsible for overall technical solution delivery of assigned projects and business development efforts. They will craft the vision for the implementation of the technology work stream which includes all facets from architecture planning, solution design, integration platforms and processes, data management, delivery to the business, and handoff to support. This role requires a breadth of knowledge across the technical landscape and is deeply familiar with D365 and understands how to use technology to solve business problems. The Dynamics 365 Lead Architect is also responsible for the architectural approach and vision for all technical components of the solution and leadership of the technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with developers, leadership, and other solutions leaders to bring strategic technical vision to reality
- Work with business product owners and business analysts to elicit requirements & assist in developing design specifications to maximize the benefit of Dynamics 365.
- Assist users in defining Business requirements for service request
- Manage and mentor a team of 2-5 functional analysts and developers to execute solutions designed by the Solutions Lead
- Develop functional solution design options for complex systems in alignment with enterprise architecture guidance
- Act as a senior consultant to business partners to identify, design, and implement solutions using the capabilities available through Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365)
- Assist with user training as needed, providing guidance with approach, documentation, and presentation
- Coordinate with business users for UAT Testing and signoff.
- Provide expert level support for D365
- Packages D365 customizations and enhancements into deployment models
- Promote D365 models from development, test, and staging environments
- Performs debugging and unit testing of D365 solutions
- Hands on when needed, able to perform responsibilities expected of a D365 developer or D365 functional analyst
- Promote and ensure that appropriate standards, methods and tools for functional solution architecture and development are adopted and used effectively, ensuring fit for purpose and alignment of enterprise architecture, security, compliance (e.g., SOX), and delivery
- Articulate and communicate trade-offs for architecture decisions to both business and technical audiences when obtaining buy-ins to the solution
- Conduct and document architectural trade-off analysis to support and justify architectural decisions made during the specification of the solution architecture
- Produce high and, where required, detailed estimates for initiatives proposed by other IT teams and the PMO
- Write and conduct reviews for key design documents relating to IT initiatives/changes
- Develop and document technical designs and specifications appropriate to enabling the implementation of solutions
- Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards
- Oversee technical scoping and design through the entire project lifecycle from discovery/ideation through implementation
- Participate in research/design of new systems
- Keeps up to date on the D365 roadmap, communicating new features, changes, and roadmap to IT Leadership
Qualifications
- While experience is preferred over qualifications, candidates that possess degrees / diplomas / certificates related to a technical solution design discipline will be favored.
- 10+ years in technology with a strong background in technical and functional ERP solutions
- 5+ years experience with custom development in X++ for Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
- Pragmatic and proven solution designing skills with a general background in designing a range of solutions particularly for ERPs
- Experience evaluating alternatives considering out of the box/configurable alternatives with a mature ERP solution vs. custom development
- Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels including the executive level
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
- Strong knowledge and understanding of business needs with the ability to establish and translate customer requirements into working code.
- Proven ability to participate in software development projects and ensure objectives, goals, and commitments are met
- Demonstrated ability to assess technical gaps in requirement specifications
Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart
- Previous experience in delivering solutions utilizing D365 capabilities is strongly desired
- Previous experience implementing solutions requiring adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
Travel requirements
- Ability to travel to domestic or international locations, including day trips and overnight.
- Anticipated travel of up to once a month, including overnight stays.
Working Conditions
- Availability to work off-hours (evenings, weekends, overnight) to address unexpected IT issues, or supporting implementations.
- Ability to work off-hours, including evenings and weekends on short notice.
Physical Requirement
- Primarily computer-based work requiring extended periods of sitting at a computer, typing, but may also including standing, walking, carrying or lifting (up to 50 lbs) in support of team tasks.
