eComm Java Developer

THE OPPORTUNITY

Dillard’s is looking for an experienced Java Developer who is highly motivated and technical and enjoys collaborating in a team environment. 

As our ideal candidate, you will be well-versed in Java and able to solve complex user experience problems for Dillard’s e-commerce website. You will also be able to easily step into an agile environment that includes working closely with Business Analysts, QAs, and other developers supporting projects. A solid work ethic, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities will be crucial. 

THE TEAM

In this role, you will work with leading-edge technology, and your work will be observed on the World Wide Web. You will be part of a large team of developers responsible for all the code development and quality assurance for the www.dillards.com website. The team also develops and supports a few stand-alone applications to assist the business team in changing the look and feel of the site without programmer intervention.

THE MUST-HAVES

• 2+ years of development experience
• Java
• JSP
• JavaScript
• HTML5
• Relational database experience (DB2)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Ability to work onsite at Corporate Headquarters in Little Rock, AR

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU’LL

• Understand the basic flow of our site - from product pages to checkout, My Account features and functionality, etc. 
• Understand our agile process - card assignment, self-testing, QA testing, and transitioning cards in Jira.
• Understand GitHub Desktop and GitLab - creating branches, committing and pushing, and merging changes. 
• Understand the basics of our code base and how back-end development is tied to the front-end.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Understand the deployment process and its role in development and production. 
• Understand how to effectively debug and test using Dev tools, IDE console, Visual Studio, and test devices.
• Have a high-level understanding of the batch processing that supports the site.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU’LL

• Understand the Management Center's functionality and its role on our site. 
• Understand the basic business rules related to selecting and purchasing items online.
• Understand the basics of login state, cookies, and storage and how they relate to the user site experience. 
• Begin to work independently - finish on time, test your work thoroughly, and debug and correct defects.
• Attempt to complete medium-difficulty assignments on your own.
• Begin to work as a member of our on-call rotation with assistance.
