The World Bank (WB) is hiring hundreds of Economists over the next few years. We are seeking to build a pipeline of interested and qualified Economists with areas of specialization in: Agriculture, Climate, Education, Energy, Environment, Extractives, Fragile States, Governance, Health, Poverty, Tax, Transport, Urban, Water, and many more.
As we build our WB Economist pipeline, we would like to invite you to submit your resume and a cover letter to show your interest, and we will search and hire from this Economist pipeline as vacancies become available. Selection Criteria
Currently at the WB, we employ over1500 Economists, who are all at different stages of their careers. The educationbackground typically includes a PhD or advanced degrees in Economics or similarareas. Economists at the WB work in a variety of settings, in research and inoperations. Below is a sample of what an Economist working in Operations mightbe expected to do/know:
- Excellent quantitative and analytical background with a track record producing analytical work in a relevant WB sector.
- Superb social skills; ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, and to listen and integrate ideas from diverse sources, governments, NGOs and donors, other partners while being respectful and sensitive to cultural, political and gender issues.
- Solid client-orientation and diplomatic skills combined with candor and courage of opinion.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of linkages between major sectors of the economy
- Knowledge and experience in development arena - Understands policy making process; ability to distill operationally relevant recommendations/lessons for clients.
- Policy dialogue skills - Identifies and assesses policy issues and plays an active role in the dialogue with the government and/or other stakeholders.
- Integrative skills - Ability to see issues from an integrated view across multiple facets.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to present complex analyses to non-specialist audiences.
The primary language used in the WB isEnglish, other official languages include Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese,Russian and Spanish. Candidates who speak English and other official languageswill be most competitive.
