Summary:
The Editor is part of the Curriculum and Content team that is responsible for advancing Learning for Justiceโs education and advocacy efforts through development of learning materials, resources and publications for multiple platforms and audiences.ย
The Editor manages development and editing for LFJ content and curriculum publications and provides editing support for LFJ program. On occasion, the Editor will be responsible for researching, developing, writing and producing LFJ content, including publications, online articles and magazine features and departments. The person in this position has strong writing and editorial experience and is committed to social justice and educational equity.
Primary Job Functions:
- Edit program publications, including frameworks, resources, lesson plans, curricula, and reports;
- Edit features and other content as assigned for Learning for Justice magazine;
- Manage Learning for Justice magazine departments as assigned;
- Coordinate quality checks and participate in all aspects of magazine development;
- Research and write content for LFJ publications, short articles and magazine as assigned;
- Manage development, editing and publishing of short articles for publication on Learning for Justice webpage
- Write and edit copy for LFJโs website, newsletter, social media and promotional emails;
- Manage relationships with internal partners and freelance writers and copy editors;
- Ensure print and digital materials are accurate and fit both the style and philosophy of the program;
- Build and publish content on learningforjustice.org as needed;
- Contribute to informational and promotional email campaigns in both a creative and editorial capacity;
- Provide editing support for all LFJ working groups;
- Participate in departmental meetings and collaborative projects; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications โ
Education and Related Work Experience:
- At least five (5) years of demonstrated writing and editing experience;
- Familiarity with and commitment to educational equity and social justice issues; and
- High school diploma or GED required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Superb writing, editing and research skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, take initiative and work autonomously;
- Ability to maintain departmental voice in all written materials;
- Experience editing for a particular editorial style (AP, MLA, Chicago);
- Strong understanding of fair use copyright laws;
- Ability to work collaboratively in an open office environment;
- Commitment to the ideals of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; and
- Commitment to fostering an anti-racist work-culture and to anti-racist principles and learning.
Compensation:
This is an exempt role, and the minimum starting salary is $80,031 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.ย
Work Designation:
This role has the following work designation options:
- Distant Remote: Will work remotely and are not expected to work in the states in which the SPLC has an office or in an SPLC Office. They may be required to attend occasional meetings and activities in the states in which the SPLC has an office or elsewhere.
- Local Remote: Will work remotely but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.
- Telework: Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.
Other Special Considerations:
This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
