Job Description

Diversified Communications is seeking an Editor to join our dynamic company! The Editor for the clean energy group, currently consisting of Intersolar North America and Energy Storage North America, is a skilled journalist with experience building content across digital media platforms. The Editor must be a self-starter, someone who can develop unique and innovative ideas, manage multiple tasks and who is comfortable interfacing with clean energy professionals as well as internal marketing and sales teams. The Editor will create and manage content covering trends and developments in the solar, energy storage, and EV charging industries and conduct interviews with technologists, policy makers, and key industry stakeholders to conceptualize and write original news briefs and feature-length articles, which may include news analysis as well as policy-focused topics. The Editor will be responsible for creating newsletters, case studies, and multimedia projects, including podcast and video work. The Editor will also be responsible for helping to create content - and in some cases lead panels or sessions - at our events and possibly some other industry events. The goal of all content is to help clean energy professionals better understand the markets they are in and what opportunities there are for growth. A commitment to consistent content creation along with a strong desire to grow a digital platform, revenue, and brand are essential.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Create and edit original news briefs and feature-length articles for upcoming clean energy group digital news site
  • Oversee editorial calendar, including managing contributions and collaborating with the Associate Editor, Contributing Editors, and Editorial Advisory Board
  • Develop and deliver on editorial calendars and strategic plans, including weekly news and feature content and special projects such as reports, case studies, and multimedia
  • Develop innovative content, recruit speakers, and moderate multimedia projects, including podcasts, webinars, Digital Summit sessions, videos, and other new media
  • Maintain and build a pool of freelance Contributing Editors and expert sources while managing a freelance budget
  • Sit on ISNA/ESNA Conference advisory committee - helping to vet and recruit speakers for annual conferences
  • Manage in-house style guide and handbook; edit content using in-house style guide, along with Associated Press style guide
  • Ensure production of email newsletters using Marketo email automation system.
  • Work collaboratively with sales and marketing; educate and inform the team of trends in the market and act on feedback from sales and marketing regarding opportunities for new products and to enhance existing ones
  • Understand and monitor site health and performance metrics and provide input and recommendations to increase readership.
  • Attend industry events and conferences, with some travel required.
  • Ability to work independently and, occasionally, remotely.

Knowledge: Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism, or similar field preferred. 3-5 years' relevant experience working in clean energy, particularly for a B2B publication or digital product strongly preferred.

Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Audience development experience preferred. Familiarity using web-based content management systems and with promoting content across social media platforms preferred. Experience using data and web analytics to understand the behavior and preferences of readership a plus. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, Audacity, iMovie, or other equivalent photo, audio, and video-editing software preferred.

Abilities: Must be highly organized, independent, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven, with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once with short turnaround time. A willingness to network and build contacts within the industry is vital to succeeding in this position. Ability to collaborate with a small but passionate team producing daily news and long-term projects is necessary.

Travel: : Domestic travel required; COVID vaccine required for business travel.
